The direct cause isn't determined but they didn't die violently or due to poison apparently.

And I know what they mean to say this, via the following:

Sviridov is the latest in a series of critics of the Russian establishment found inexplicably dead

But I think we can probably explain why they are dead: Putie really doesn't like critics.

Lieutenant General Vladimir Sviridov, 68, and his wife Tatyana, 72, were found dead on Wednesday in their bedroom, said the Kyiv Post. They looked to have been dead for about a week before their discovery, according to the newspaper.
