Caleb Williams legitimately is stumbling bad down the stretch. Bad losses to rivals Notre Dame and now UCLA in what is likely his final college game.

What's everyone think? Is he "Generational", a Top-3 QB prospect, or the next Johnny Manziel?

This is prospect fatigue. This is the exact same phenomenon that had people talking themselves out of Peyton Manning 25 years ago.

Patrick Mahomes played his senior year for a 5-7 Texas Tech team that went 1-6 down the stretch. Patrick Mahomes is now the best QB in the world.

"Patrick Mahomes played his senior year for a 5-7 Texas Tech team that went 1-6 down the stretch. Patrick Mahomes is now the best QB in the world."

Tell that to my wife's fantasy! She got him this year and was so excited thinking she would dominate the league. She's in dead last largely because he's had like 2 games this year where he actually earned a good amount of fantasy points 😏.

Little did we know before week 1 when her 10 year old nephew offered her CJ Stroud for Mahommes that we were actually crazy for saying no.

That said, yes he's still a top-tier QB of course but man he's been so awful for fantasy this season!

[–] Tedy_Duchamp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think more and more Maye is emerging as the top prospect

[–] chitownsports714@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

His team also had 3 rushing yards lol

[–] Marks30@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Guy had 384 passing yards and a 153 rating. What the fuck are you expecting out of this kid… How in the world is that “stumbling bad”? USC’s defence is complete ass and has been all year. Anyone with half a brain knows this.

[–] Further_Beyond@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Holy moly.

He just threw for 384 and 1:1 against a top 10 defense, with a subpar supporting cast. Today was a solid-very good game for him.

[–] vince2423@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sports radio is absolutely ripping Caleb apart from yesterday, on multiple shows and channels so it’s not that outrageous…

[–] Further_Beyond@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ahh sports radio, the gold standard of football knowledge and not screaming/raging for clicke

[–] Gumorak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We have some giant dumbasses in this fan base.

[–] PowerfulAd1661@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What kind of dumbasses? Generational dumbass? Top-3 dumbass? Or Johnny Manziel dumbass?

[–] puffdragon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Come on go guys give OP a break, he said in the title that he's no expert.

But seriously OP, do you actually watch college football? This post has a real, "I only heard of this guy a few months ago because of the bears QB situation" feel to it.

Football is very much a team sport, and you're focused on one 22yo guy on a spectrum of Generational QB or manziel. The answer is we'll see what happens and he's likely somewhere in between.

I'm much more concerned with the Bears front office, coaching staff, establishing a consistent offensive scheme, and building the trenches. Doesn't matter who's at QB when they're getting sacked 6-9 times a game.

[–] TigerCharades3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Omg please someone nuke this stupid sub until next year I can’t take this shit man.

[–] InsideHangar18@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I am actually considering leaving the sub until the draft. It’s so irritating.

[–] PianoEmeritus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Caleb Williams: has a good game

Bears fans: “Anyone else think Caleb sucks?”

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Any sub has some guys who really dislike the guy but it’s crazy how many of them are in this sub

[–] brekfist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's great for the NFL that Patrick Mahomes went to the Chiefs, hopefully the Patriots can get Caleb.

Virginia McCaskey will engulf and kill Cabeb's football career.

[–] Schweedaddy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OP genuinely thought he was cooking with this post

[–] TheFatOrangeYak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hi, you do not know more than the professionals.

[–] GrdiSr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What's everyone think?

I think this could have been a comment in about 4 other active posts right now.

[–] jmrogers31@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I honestly think the Giants are going to get the #1 pick, so it won't matter.

[–] SurelyRight@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What? Did you not watch the game?

[–] reececanthear@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think the mods need to create a mega thread for all posts like this. We don’t need 10 a day.

[–] Divorce_Advice@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Everytime I watch Caleb play, I am amazed by him. In my view his receivers aren't very good and his defense is atrocious. I would be pissed if we passed on him, and I'm a Fields truther.

[–] ButtFullOfSemen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] puffdragon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This guy is something, would love him on the Bears

[–] dafoo21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If it means anything, 2 main guys on the Athletic that live and breath the college game (Dane and Mike) have planted their flags.

  1. Dan Brugler (Hes famous for his monster 'The Beast' draft guide) recently changed Maye to the top guy.

  2. Nate Tice has had Maye as his top QB guy forever, way before Caleb's off games recently.

Id say, hes not generational, but noone will ever be Manziel again. Johnny was literally the biggest and largest red flag in recent memory. Its no way fair to put Caleb there (but i know what you mean by bringing Manziel up).

Caleb is looking like "just" a top 3 guy and I put quotes around just bc that shouldnt be frowned upon. Theres a bunch of people on this sub saying to basically ignore what he has been struggling with and to just listen to the generational stuff. Why would you do that? You need to look at film at the end of the day and not remember his hype. His film recently has been less than generational. But, that doesnt mean he cant be good at the next level.

Its really weird around here. Its like people on the sub are already protecting Caleb, thinking hes going to be the next bears QB.

[–] SurelyRight@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What is it you think hes been struggling with?

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do you really get that impression? Outside of the comments under this post all I‘ve seen was unquestioned optimism for Maye and huge concerns about Caleb. That guy got absolutely hated on here. Also they are probably protecting him because OP wrote absolute bullshit and it’s unfair to just let it stand that way

[–] Zealousideal_Bass199@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Qb wins only matter when its not Fields

[–] SD40couple@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He is the next Justin fields. Drake Maye is the better pro prospect.

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Neither Caleb nor Maye are comparable to Fields

[–] shellsquad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Time to delete this post.

[–] grants_like_horace@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We're taking MHJ with our first pick and dealing the othter

[–] dangshnizzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Lol they were never going to move on from Fields. If they land 1st, they'll probably trade back again

[–] jaydeezy0615@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hilarious thought. Imagine being the GM and putting your job further on the line with the same QB who’s been hurt and cannot develop over and over again.

[–] dangshnizzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You seem to be thinking more like a coach than a GM

[–] jaydeezy0615@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

GM chose failure coach and stuck with failure QB. Next chance to turn it around would be a new coach he chooses AND a new QB. Not a new coach with the same failure QB. That would be firing himself duh

[–] SonOfNike85@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't watch college football so I don't know the answer to this but why isn't Bo Nix considered a top prospect?

Just read an article saying they expect him to be drafted in the second round. Is he just putting up empty stats against bad defenses or something?

His completion percentage and TD/int are really good but obviously without watching any of the games I don't have any context for his numbers.

[–] cba368847966280@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Scouts couldn’t give less of a fuck about box scores pretty much sums it up.

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nix is a bit limited as a prospect. Also his arm is ok but not amazing. I’d say he’s a late first rounder but is kinda missing the big upside

[–] Dilligaf_1963@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I always hear 'experts say'......I want to know who these 'experts' are. I want names. These idiots don't know anything. Quarterbacks are the biggest fucking crapshoot that there is in professional sports.

[–] AlexStar6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Does it matter?

Drafting him with this coaching staff would be like having the fastest, best handling, most perfectly tuned race car in the world and letting a blind/deaf/mute person with one hand drive it…

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That coaching change (idk if it even happens but I suppose it will) will be such a big factor in our future success but it’s pretty much impossible to really project who it will be

[–] SalsaMerde@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I want Caleb Williams to look as bad as possible. If we need a QB and only have 1.02, then that should help us land him.

[–] IlliniBull@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's not just Caleb. Someone is going to have to explain the Drake Maye hype to me at this point.

Look I get it one play is not everything, but he has an NFL RB and a future NFL WR on that team.

He plays really great except against the team with the most NFL talent in his conference, please only pay attention to his first half (and even then pretend like 170 yards and one TD is Heisman worthy), ignore his crucial INT, and act like a hr barely over 200 yards he's throwing for is 350 is getting old too.

[–] reverieontheonyx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There has to be something that can be said for caleb's sake that all of the arguments I see against him are dumb as fuck.

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Did you watch the UCLA game? Caleb threw for almost 400 yards... he's the only reason USC was even in the game.

The guy who looked mediocre yesterday was Maye.

[–] 92roll13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Are people actually watching USC games when comments like these are made?

SC had multiple turnovers (not from Caleb) that let to UCLA points. Their offensive line is a turnstile. Literally every snap Caleb has people in his face. The defense is atrocious and has not stopped anyway this year.

Honestly looks a lot like the Bears

[–] Dekalbian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OP is a meatball and didn’t watch the game, or any SC games this year.

Also, OP loves using buzzwords to make comps that mean absolutely nothing.

[–] PeanutBear33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

if performance in college mattered for performance in nfl, drafting wouldn't be such a crap shoot that it is.

I have my doubts of Caleb. The same people hyping up mitchell are hyping up him. We're getting "generational" prospects every 2-3 years. His rumored refusing to play for certain teams are red flags. But the people making this decision hopefully aren't as dumb as me. And aren't as dumb as the so called experts that missed so hard on Mitchell.
