JF1 has a 18.7 QBR in the final two minutes of every half played. Yikes.

Don’t know who’s watching UNC right now, but Drake Maye is so him it’s not even funny. If we end up with #1 it has to be Maye.

[–] MiddleNameIsJoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean, I won't judge Maye until I see the video, but a quick glance says his team has 7 points at halftime and he's completed less than 50% of his passes.

[–] Consistent-Music1337@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This aged poorly. Maye was bad in the second half, especially the final 2 possessions & INT.

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maye had a very mediocre game . Williams was much better against UCLA

[–] HoneyBooBooMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

may was for 16/36 209 yd 1td 1 int. How does that performace suggest he is him???

[–] CudderKid@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Still better than the median Fields line

[–] Ill-Ad7822@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Watching maye rn he has already thrown 2 dimes... I think Poles goes with him over williams deadass. Tired of losing man want a franchise qb stroud has looked better in 10 games than fields has in 35 games

[–] 106milez2chicago@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's 9/20 so far. I'm not watching him today, but when I have this year I've seen him throw some really nice passes, but then also miss horribly on easy passes. Not sure if that's what's going on today, but 2 dimes don't mean much with <50% completion.

[–] MiddleNameIsJoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You should probably watch Williams' game today too

[–] Adnonymus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There is no was Poles will pass on Williams for Maye if the Bears have 1OA.

At this point I think it's time to find another QB. If Fields comes back and tears it up these next 7 games then I'd say keep him. I'm kind of in a your job is gone unless you prove me wrong mindset.

[–] 92roll13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Both of these college QBs are ridiculous. Each has made an incredible TD throw today. It might not matter what JF does….

[–] Gbh11108@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Which one did Williams make? The one where the cb fell down after the throw while having the wr covered? That was a desperation chuck and it ended up luckily working.

[–] Perfect_Bird_5399@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ya don't say.

At this point no one will change their opinion based on any metric. I'm a hater, but dang it, let him play the last seven. If he's mediocre or worse, move on.

Note: if he is to be great, he needs to show he can overcome adversity. The Oline is playing well now. The coaching is... present. No more excuses. Win and control your own future JF.

[–] porkbellies37@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ll add that we need to see him not only play, but we need to see what he looks like with a lot of pass attempts. He’s only attempted 35+ passes three times in his career while there are 12 teams averaging more than that this year. I don’t think it helps anyone to keep getting these small sample looks. The coaches need to call the drop backs and Fields needs to be decisive and let it loose.

[–] babaganoush_84@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ready for JF1 to prove his point - one way or the other. And think his play will speak volumes for the coaching staff and team in general.

[–] Brodie1567@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He has to show massive improvement. He’s won 4 games in two years now (counting).

If not, there is no way Poles will hitch his wagon to Fields again when his job is on the line.

[–] sleepysol@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If poles passes on an early qb after fields is just okay, to go something like trade back and then wr/dt/s/de/c in the first three rounds he will do that because he has been given assurances that his job isn't on the line.

Are we evaluating coaches too?

[–] Tedy_Duchamp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maye will be a bear next year. Fields will be a backup in Tampa or something

[–] bread840@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wanted fields to be the guy. I was born in the early 80’s. Was still shitting my diapers in ‘85 so I don’t remember the glory days (minus the 2005 defensive dominance). I’ve lived my entire life as a fucking loser joke of a football fan. I’m all in on Tyson Bagent. Dude is exactly what the bears need and it pains me to see this discussion.

[–] discwrangler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's had a lot of time to watch the tape. A LOT of time.

[–] ligmagottem6969@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The bar is Bagent. Can he be better than Bagent?

[–] bornfri13theclipse@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"I think seven weeks is enough time to show consistency and for him to be the high performer that we expect him to be," Bears coach Matt Eberflus said.

Is this also true of Head Coaches?

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Of course it is...

[–] Jamesaya@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Realistically i dont see a way he can possibly prove anything at this point. Even if he plays great, i dont see any way the beats don’t draft a QB if they pick top 2-3. I guess playing great would likely keep him on the team in the offseason or maybe traded for more than a 4th

But really, its too late.

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It is in the Bears best interest for Fields to play well. Either we keep him, or trade him, but either way we want him to play better.

It is entirely plausible that the Bears miss out on the #1 and #2 pick, maybe even #3. It is a very real possibility that the Bears draft a Fields replacement later in the draft (McCarthy or another prospect) who backs up Fields next year. Someone the Bears can actually develop as a QB.

This notion that our options are Fields, Maye or Williams...that is a dream scenario. A more likely option is we have two first round picks we use on someone other than a top QB or MHJ, and we keep Fields.

None of these are bad options, but nothing is settled.

My opinion of JF1 is he struggles to read defenses. Specifically zone.

The games he’s done well, he’s doing well against man coverage. The qbr in the 2min window plays into that opinion - he has less time pre snap to try to recognize the defense and does very poorly.
