When used for frying, it is reported that transformer oil lasts much longer than regular cooking oil.

You forgot the most important part. This is almost dangerously neglectful.

It is not exactly edible, though, as the transformer oil contains toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which have been illegal in the U.S. since 1979.
