  1. Fields + Harrison Jr. and Laiatu Latu

  2. Williams or Maye and Latu

  3. Harrison Jr. and JJ McCarthy + Harbaugh

  4. Another option

I’d be torn between options 2 and 3, personally. I think Harbaugh would restore respectability to the organization and might be enticed by the opportunity to continue coaching McCarthy, who is still really young and moldable. It’s easy to forget the kid isn’t even 21 yet and can still add a lot of mass to his frame. Personally, I’m ready to move on from Fields and start over, too.

#4

The only truly generational QB drafted in the last half dozen years has been Mahomes, who went to a team that made the playoffs 4 of the 5 years previous to his becoming the starting QB. Under a coach that had 20 years of experience before he won his first Superbowl.

Build a team first. There’s always going to be QB’s to draft, and nobody knows which one is the special one.

If I absolutely had to choose this very moment, it would be Mayes.

MHJ and Olu. Keep Fields

[–] Crathsor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tie for me between 1 and 2.

1 because I believe you can win with Fields right now if the team is good enough (much like Mitch, though Fields is more explosive than Mitch,) so if you want to build the team around him I think that is one way to proceed. We didn't win it all in 2018, but I would take just having fun again.

If you really feel you have to keep trying for a superstar QB then 2 is my choice.

I think this fanbase would turn on Harbaugh almost instantly, the expectations are just unrealistic and we have zero patience.

We already pretty much did #1 last year, passing up on QB to get a WR and another player. It hasn’t worked, what makes people think it would work again.

[–] okay_CPU@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yep. We need someone that we win games BECAUSE OF, not because we have an elite team around him. Poles talks about multipliers. If you have a strong QB that’s the biggest multiplier there is.

I don’t want Harbaugh

[–] Jake-Old-Trail-88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Option 3 sounds really good. MHJ seems like the most can’t miss prospect of the bunch.

[–] PowerfulAd1661@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

3…pending we gets a handful of picks for Fields. He gets out of this toxic situation and we get rid of Flus. That checks a lot of boxes for me

[–] Weak_Link_6969@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

MHJ regardless, if Fields is the guy, then everything is falling into place, if Fields isn’t the guy, build the team up, suffer through another year, and let the new guy come into a great situation in 2025.

I would personally avoid forcing DE just because it’s our biggest need, draft the top talent over the position of need at the top of the draft. Alt/Olu/Bowers for me are above Latu, but I wouldn’t hate the puck either way.

Harbaugh + MHJ + JF on a franchise tag prove it year. Draft another OL man and then give it a spin for a year. If it still isnt working, you have Moore, MHJ, a halfway decent off line and you draft a QB next year.

[–] blogst@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Any scenario where we don’t end up with MHJ is a disappointment to me. I can’t remember a more “can’t miss” draft pick. If Fields still sucks, we’ll get a QB in the next draft or free agency. Worst case scenario is we draft Maye or Williams and pass on MHJ, and they’re just as bad as fields

Anything but 3

[–] fastzombies@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I, for one, would love to go one day…let alone one week…without this absurd QB controversy bullshit. Yes, Fields hasn’t shown that he is Mahomes caliber from day one. But the man is fucking amazing. He spent 2 & 1/2 years with a horrible OL. And guess what? He didn’t ball out! Our O Line is looking so much better these days (Tevin FTW!!). Our D is killing it. Can we please stop with this “Draft a QB in the first round” Idiocracy. Justin can, and I believe will, be our franchise QB 1. DJ is a stud, Kmet is balling, Foreman just showed his pedigree with an Angry Run, our secondary is coming back from injuries…for Fuck’s sake, can we stop eating our own for a bit?!? I understand that this fanbase is passionate…but jfc, perspective?

[–] AlmightyDolphin21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Y’all try and add way too much “context” for fields. We were all here at some point. But seriously if you need a perfect situation every time then you don’t get the benefit of the doubt anymore. He’s got 7 weeks to prove you right or you’ll be rooting for him on the falcons.

[–] KingRemoStar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

#1 I’m going MHJ and one of the Samoan edge rushers Latu or JT. Preferably Latu since he seems more explosive.

I wouldn’t mind trading the top pick and going both Samoan Edge rushers in the 1st and grabbing a Guard or Center in the 2nd round. I’m sure trading the 1st pick would fetch us like 2-3 first round picks and 2nd.

[–] whatlambda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like option 3 a lot if you keep Fields for one more year. It might also be interesting to retain Getsy to work under Harbaugh -- you could take a position of modifying the playbook gradually instead of simply introducing an entire new system. Flus isn't really in a position to override Getsy, but Harbaugh would be.

So you'd have Getsy operating as an understudy to Harbaugh, and McCarthy getting a year carrying a clipboard under Fields, with Bagent able to stand in in the event of injury. And you'd have MHJ. That feels a lot healthier than starting from scratch with a mercurial HC and a rookie QB.

[–] goldenvides@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Keep Fields, draft the two best players available, get new coaches. Simple

[–] Anstavall@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do people actually genuinely believe Harbaugh will be here? I don’t think there’s a chance at all he ends up coach. I just can’t see the bears offering what he wants

[–] YungLordFarquaad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I want the team to draft the best qb prospect they can every year until they get it right.

[–] DJTheBearsFan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fields goes super saiyan the last 7 games and we draft MHJ + Latu then mid-way thru 2024 we start cookin bitches up and win the super bowl
