Since you and another already said Princess Jellyfish, I’ve also been trying to get people into Dandadan (ok it’s not an anime yet) and I haven’t really run into anyone else who’s into it. It’s pretty damn great tho.

Hm, I think I'll add this to my to-read list.

Pretty sure I'm like the only Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei "fan" left alive at this point.

I actualy like all the Kumeta-verse anime, SZS, Joshiraku and specialy Kakushigoto. The latter is probably the best and most acessible in general, but you wouldn't recognize these all being the same mangaka unless by the obvious artstyle. Just seeing Kakushigoto's MC roleplay as Zetsubou sensei was my own weeb nostalgia lol.

Its obviously dated now, specialy SZS, one of the gags is literally a girl Nokia phone texting. But it is some very cynical and based commentary on Japanese society, obviously exaggerated, but any weeb thinking Japan is dream land would be de-converted pretty quickly after watching it.

But it is also extremely dialogue heavy so if you can't enjoy reading subs then its just meh, art is also mid, though if you understand why the choices were made it makes sense and its kind of charming. Its unfortunate but I still think its a personal gem.

In a similar vein to Joshiraku, I remember watching Kabukichou Sherlock and really liking the idea of a rakugo sherlock holmes in a modern setting. I also think it did the whole Death Note story but better without the bad second season. After watching it years ago though, I haven't seen anyone talk about it.

Oh we're doing obscure anime?

Flint the Time Detective. I've also met Digimon fans, but never fans of Appmon in particular. That was one of their best arca, but it got overshadowed by the dogshit Digimon Tri.

I'm late, but Air Gear. Inline skates with souped up micro-motors in them. Gangs/clubs with sticker logo patches all battling it out on the ground and in the air. It's my shit.

Love watamote, i can't believe i didn't see anyone mention it here. I got the dvd that i re-watch every so often, and the first few volumes of manga. I fell off cause of life though ;-;

Kaiji. It is so good, but most people are turned off by the artstyle.

Gunbuster 2

Mononoke is beautiful in aesthetics, also deals with some taboos like prostitution and mysoginy. Not to confuse with Princess Mononoke.
