I'm currently a Google Chromecast user and thinking about getting an Apple TV.

What I currently like to do, is to open the YouTube App on my phone to check for new videos and cast it to the TV when there is something I like to watch.

Is this possible?

If both of your Apple TV and your phone are logged in to the same youtube-account then you can use the phone as a remote and whatever you open on the phone will instead play on the Apple TV. You can also airplay it if you're on an iphone but idk why you would want to do that when the ATV has a perfectly capable youtube-app.

This works for YouTube but not for YouTubeTV, correct? I find it not ideal that the iPhone Remote app can turn on AppleTV and TV, and sure I can navigate to the YouTubeTV app on the ATV, start a show, etc. However, once the iPhone Remote app transitions to the Dynamic Island or Lock Screen, there are 2 options: select remote and it’s back to navigating on the ATV (which works), or selecting YTTV will open the YTTV app on my phone, but that’s a second instance of YTTV on my phone with a separate stream. Ideally at that point via this workflow I would love the YTTV app on my phone to directly control the YTTV on the ATV. Does this make sense ?

Because the app's video controls suck in comparison to Apple's native controls, which you get when AirPlaying from phone/iPad.
