I was not at all worried about Mitch Trubisky playing well in Pittsburgh. But for some reason I kinda am worried about Fields going somewhere else and being like a top 10 QB in the league. Does anyone else feel this way? The guy has a crazy amount of talent and also is very mentally tough. IDK what is holding him back, it just doesn't seem to make sense.

Michael Vick 2.0

[–] bearfan84@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not at all.

[–] Arctic_Reigns@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No I think he needs a change of scenery. What I’m worried about is picking up the 5th year option then the eventual hold out leading to a $100+m extension

[–] AdStreet2074@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wish he could go to the packers and start for them

[–] Tonkathedog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, but on the flip side I’m also worried that even with a new OC and better weapons he won’t be good enough.

I think Fields will be an awesome QB somewhere else

[–] RemotePhilosophy6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’d like him to be one here.

[–] eneal21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think so too hopefully he goes to the falcon and they hire Eric bieniemy

[–] -Pruples-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not worried about it. It's unlikely but possible, and would just be confirmation of what we've known for a very very very very long time....Chicago is where quarterbacks go to die.

[–] Tedy_Duchamp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nah. It’s pretty clear he won’t be a successful starter in the league. Just like it was with Mitch

[–] a-handle-has-no-name@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think there's a good chance that he could succeed elsewhere, especially with the right coach and supporting cast

Assuming he succeeds (not a given), it depends on where he goes. Like, I could see him going to the Steelers, which would be cool to see them do well. I could also see him going to the Jets, which I would hate to see them succeed.

[–] supermr34@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Absolutely not. I like fields, regardless of if he’s our guy or not. If he goes elsewhere, I hope he balls out.

[–] y_wont_my_line_block@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Worried. Might be stretching it.

Do I think it's possible. Yes. But that should be reflected in what that team sends back in a trade. I don't think it's crazy to get conditions in a trade where he returns a first round pick.

[–] MiddleNameIsJoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No, not even a little.

No matter how physically talented you are, you can't succeed in the NFL as a QB without the ability to read a defense in real time, and fields is absolutely horrible at it. It makes everything around him look worse. He's a career killer for coaches and OCs.

Around a dozen QBs get drafted each year in the NFL and 1-2 per draft become above-average starters. There's not enough jobs to go around to keep giving chances to every bust.

[–] BurgerBob1010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No I want him to succeed elsewhere. The guy has done nothing but work hard day-in, day-out and his career was stunted here in Chicago. The guy did nothing wrong but get picked by the most dysfunctional QB franchise in the league. Love the guy, he deserves to flourish

[–] 2057Champs__@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How come a D2 UDFA rookie played behind the exact same team and was able to put up similar stats and take a lot less sacks????

How come no bust bears QB who’s played for the bears went on to succeed anywhere else, even with some of the best coaching in the nfl to help them?

[–] TelevisionOriginal24@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He beat the worst team in the league by 3 points, while not getting sacked - what a superstar!!!

[–] 2057Champs__@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And Justin fields has thrown for over 200 yards in 75% of the games he’s played in 3 seasons in the nfl.

I’m not a Bagent fanatic, but I’m not a fields homer unlike too many on this sub, who love losing like their lives depend on it

[–] jphoc@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s already playing good, his stat line the last 17 games is comparable to Hurts. The question is does the front office think Caleb is better than Fields?

[–] FlyinDtchman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There's still a chance he stays at least 1 more year... If the Panthers can win 2 or 3 down the stretch.

If the bears get Another 1st overall pick... Them he's gone... But if they get knocked down to 3 I think he stays if he plays well...

I do think he could ball out somewhere else.

Its been pretty obvious since week1 they are trying to pigeon hole him into what THE BEARS want to do...

. Just look at all the terrible back-ups playing.... Fields is head and shoulders above most of them.... Plus a likely NFL expansion going to happen in the next 5 years or so...

He's not elite... But he can play at an elite level. Which is way better than most QBs.

[–] citamlli1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not one bit. I was never a believer in that guy. It's not the guy, it's the concept of dual threat. I don't believe in it. Gimme a drew Brees/Brady/Manning/luck type QB.

[–] FinancialTwo4205@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He def has talent, I def want him to succeed on another team.

[–] Upset_Researcher_143@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wherever he is, I hope he succeeds

[–] SwissyVictory@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How many QBs have failed all 3 years starting on the team that drafted them, then succeeded long term elsewhere? The only QB I can think of in the past 10+ years is Tannehill and he just got replaced, and of course he outplayed Feilds on his original team. Maybe Geno Smith, but he's just looking passable rather than good.

If he does become a franchise QB somewhere else, then it was the right move (because it never happens), and we accept that football is crazy.

[–] MrGerb1k@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is what people on this sub say about EVERY Bears player that signs for another team haha

[–] rhj2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s always going to have flashes but will never be consistent.

[–] SensibleBrownPants@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I expect Fields will find greater success with his next team and I’m fine with that.

[–] johnnybadapple@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fields has zero ability to perform in the clutch. He folds like a deck of cards every time the game is on the line. That is mental and cannot be taught. He’s fine when he jumps out to a massive lead, but that is rare in the NFL.

[–] coolstorybro42@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

its mindblowing how nobody else in this sub sees this lol

[–] coolstorybro42@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

what makes you say he is very mentally tough? i feel the opposite

[–] Robertosaur@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love the way Fields carries himself on and off the field. His teammates speak very highly of him whether in college or professionally. He really seems like an all around good guy. I have no ill will toward the kid, successful with the Bears or not. I hope he has a good career, but I really hope it’s with us.

[–] MDizzleGrizzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. I don’t know many teams he can go to where they’d cater to his style of play. If he doesn’t improve in Chicago he’ll show the league he’s incapable of adapting to the NFL.

[–] tonybagadildas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m a Fields fan. I want him to succeed. Hopefully here. But I’d still root for him to be good if he moves on.

[–] Obi-WansForceGhost@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No because he wouldn’t be the 1st Bear to succeed elsewhere. This team is cursed

[–] Cxmxbamf@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Fickle_Proposal8881@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My goodness. We Bears fans have to grow up. Going after each other on Reddit is so lame. If Fields succeeds here, good for him, if it’s somewhere else, good for him. None of us are getting paid what he is to shit on each other lol. But imo, I would probably move on from Fields if we get one of the top two picks or both, regardless.

[–] Potential_Capital384@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would go after Harrison and keep Fields. Hire coaches that play to his strengths.
