It would make iPhone experience worse

[–] Unlifer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s your choice if you want to make it worse. You’re not forced to sideload.

Looking forward to the day this is made available everywhere! It’s ridiculous to geolock major features like this.

[–] _Psilo_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'll stay on Android until this comes to North America.

[–] SkellySkeletor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This thread compromises about 60% of the total worldwide population that would ever care about side loading

[–] GodzillaX_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So how are they going to enforce this? I understand countryd will geolock things, but what about EU citizens abroad or EU citizens traveling? The EU laws are clear that EU CITIZENS are allowed these rights not just when they're within boarders.

Very happy for EU users. I personally don’t intend on using third party app stores, but I do believe that this will create pressure on Apple to make their app pricing model more competitive.

Oh boy.

Let me see the comments from the real rabid apple fanbois at ARS technica.

Those losers will downvote and cry like babies every time that someone says sideloading in ios.

lol

What if I am an EU citizen living abroad? The DMA should still apply to me.

EU is fucking awesome when it comes to this shit. Why can't the US and others in the west get on board and start protecting consumers from monopolistic companies exploiting the shit out of people?

I remember years ago there was a hack to remove the slow ass animations. My 4S was already a few years old and getting kinda slow with all the updates and I literally had to wait between taps for the animation to finish so that I could tap again. But this hack made it lightning fast and I could no longer out-tap the interface even when I tried to go as fast as possible. It was a glorious couple of months and then they patched it. Fuckers.

Wondering if it’ll come to IOS 16

[–] qube_TA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wonder that if it proves popular in the EU (suspect it won't be) that it'll be used as leverage to change the rules elsewhere. For the most part I've never been that bothered about it other than it would be nice to run retro emulators on my phone as I've never liked modern video games.

I think that some of you guys are popping champagnes way too fast. First wait and see how actually Apple implemented it 😉

Hopefully, the US pushes Apple to do this.

[–] dropthemagic@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I fucking hate the EU. I’m sorry but they can’t get the economy and other things in order first. And now they want to dictate technology. Well thx eu now I gotta talk to my parents about every cable purchase because it could be usbc with 2.0 speeds meant for charging or a 40GB thunderbolt cable.

The EU isn’t bad. But I guarantee none of those idiots would be able to tell what cable does what.

What happens if you buy a phone in the EU but then go to the US? What happens if you get an iPhone in the US but move to an EU country? Would the 3rd party store still work?
