I've been pretty neutral about the changes on watchOS 10. I understood that people don't like changes -

but it's been 2 months now and I still try to bring up the control center the old way, I still try to access my most recently used apps the old way and I'm still annoyed by having submenus everywhere where watchOS 9 was straightforward with everything. watchOS 10 is the most unintuitive Apple experience I ever had.

Old top menu bar, one line leaving space for the actual content

New top menu bar with huge buttons at the top, pushing down the actual content

Probably the worst part on my 40mm SE is that the colorful backgrounds made all app icons on watch faces smaller (there has recently been a post about this) and I keep missing icons when clicking them. I sometimes need to click an icon 4 times until it registers, along with the colorful backgrounds and unnecessarily huge flashy other buttons this feels like a $50 knockoff Watch to me now.

Also what did they think when changing the menu bar at the top? It used to be one small line (picture 1) but now on my 40mm Watch about 1 fourth of the screen is covered by each app's title or clock (picture 2). I know what app I'm in, I don't need half the screen (exaggerating yes) covered to be reminded of the app I'm using.

watchOS 10 must've been designed by someone who doesn't really use their Apple Watch much I assume. I'm not blaming them, everyone can make mistakes when the goal was progress but it's not like a mistake has to be set in stone. Just roll it back or give us a choice between design and functionality - I personally prefer functionality, it's not like watchOS 9 was so ugly that it needed a re-design to begin with.

I'm never using card, they are too small and totally useless.

Not to mention that there is no such thing as "dynamic behaviour", they are always in the same order no matter what I do.

ABSOLUTELY, I used to have mapped favourite apps with the big button which is no a blood useless control centre, LOVED the double click crown feature to come back to previous app-GONE. HATE the widgets, they are so laggy or not showing properly they open randomly when I’m in the shower with my watch. To be complete honest since ios10 I’m no longer using my watch as I was before, yes I still wear it but no longer check the weather as it’s so messed up(literally cannot read it and the multiple scroll it takes), I no longer close my rings and don’t care about the stats AT ALL, since to see them I need to scroll through massive windows on the activity app I hate hate hate this whole thing I WISH I could downgrade or at least stayed on the old system :( Not to mention the whole watch is slow and laggy, widgets are not loading and the battery life is trash, I cannot make it through the day when I use it as sleep tracker and alarm in the morning by around 4/5 o clock I have 20% …..

Been using Watch OS since there was a Watch OS. Didn't take long to get accustomed to the changes which, IMO, allow for cleaner watch faces. I also prefer the physical interactions with the crown and side button rather than swipes which can, under some circumstances, be difficult to do.

Closing apps is more annoying. My muscle memory for ending a workout makes me start a new segment now. I assume I’ll get used to it but I’m not sure why they changed some of these things that seemed just fine before.

the buttons to close the apps are super tiny, navigation is not easy at all, mistap a lot. it seems like the areas are less forgiving then before. Yesterday I wanted to press the microphone button on message and kept pressing something else, this never happened before. big downgrade imo. I don't see them going back though.

I stopped wearing my Apple Watch with Watch OS 10. And I am normally a die hard Apple fan.

[–] europeancafe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I cannot use the workout app. Absolutely destroyed it

[–] Patutula@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

yeah its bad, timer complications does not work most of the time either

[–] iphaze@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why isn’t it swipe from the top right to access command centre and swipe from left to open notifications? Then swipe up to multitask open apps..

Worked pretty well for the phone for years now..

I reluctantly got used to the control centre. I never use the widgets at all. I mostly hate the full screen apps, especially the Activities app which was such a regressive change. Double tap is nice but undercooked and needs a lot of improvement - it should open the notifications list, not the pointless widgets area.

Still haven’t upgraded. Would love the Snoopy faces, but happy with the way things work on the old OS.

This has been the worst watch OS update I've seen since owning my series 5. Just changes for the sake of changes. And frustrating ones at that.

As a keen runner, losing the double click of the crown to switch between the most recently used apps is also a major negative. I often flick between a couple of apps while runnning - either Now Playing and Workoutdoors on long runs, or Workoutdoors and Intervals Pro while doing short runs. Before, I could go between them without touching the screen. Now, that's not possible. It might seem like a small thing, but if I've been running for a couple of hours and am feeling tired and a bit shakey, I'm wearing gloves and/or the screen is wet, using the touchscreen is genuinely hard. I don't want to stop my run just because I need to change the volume on my headphones.

when shopping, I used to use the double click most recent app swtich when using the calculator and reminders which keeps my shopping lists. now there is an extra step... double click crown and select which window to go to.

[–] wheelie89@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It might seem like a small thing

Not at all. I was so disappointed at how badly most fitness apps integrate with music apps. And even the best integration wouldn't be able to replace opening the Spotify app to select another playlists etc. so the crown double click was appreciated

My side button is unusable due to stuff getting in the little gap around the button, so the accessibility stuff is fun because I can bring up the control center by using the palm clenches and finger taps. Do I wish I could just swipe up still because the “dock” is fucking useless? Absolutely!!!

[–] Sn0zbear@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I miss being able to swipe up for the control center :(

[–] natie29@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hated it until I realised where the recent apps shortcut was then I was happy again. I like the UI change, just would have been nice to have a quick tutorial to show where things had moved.

[–] phunphan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I am in your boat. I keep doing the wrong thing to do what I want and then I try something else and it’s wrong too. I didn’t want a new watch. I was hopeful it was just going to add some neat things not change how I use it.

[–] ShaidarHaran2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You're not the only one for sure. I don't think moving everything around for widgets was worth it frankly and wish there was a setting to go back.

In addition to just generally being chunky I am disappointed that Apple only has 1-axis navigation on the Home Screen (X = up and down vertically). I think they do this because the Digital Crown only has up/down.

But all other watch os (Google, Samsung, Fitbit, Amazfit, garmin) have 2-axis navigation (X and Y). Swiping side ways adds quite a few nice navigation options in addition to up/down.

The new official podcast app refuses to stream podcasts directly to my Bluetooth headphones. Even when I select my headphones as the Airplay output, it plays through my phone speaker. Even if I disable Bluetooth on my phone, my watch connects over cellular and it plays through my phone.

Control center incredibly troublesome to use. I always forget how to bring it up so I’ve resorted to using Siri. For those of us who misplace our phones a lot, making control center a chore to use really sucks.

I get that software updates can be a little give and take with things you like and dislike, but I’ve never seen an Apple software update make everything about a product universally worse.

Something that comes to mind when I see this new UI with all the wasted space on top and reliance on buttons instead of swipe gestures… it would be compatible with a round display. Maybe that’s their first step in preparing WatchOS for circular displays?

I hate it. Completely unnecessary.

[–] HappyHyppo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just gave up. This is my last apple watch

[–] Neuromancer2112@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I still prefer the old way of swiping up to get the control center, but I’m used to hitting the side button now.

At least the new update fixed the insane battery drain that 10.0 introduced.

[–] eatingthesandhere91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I keep forgetting that the crown does other things now and brings up the widgets.

[–] marxcom@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Everyone raving about widgets but I find them useless.

[–] MercurialMadnessMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All my watch faces were deleted, is that a known problem?

[–] MrEcksDeah@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I only started using watch OS with watch OS 10 on my S9, the experience is great, very intuitive to me.

[–] savedby007@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah I’ve used my watch significantly less after the update. I went from using it as my main communication device on certain days to a glorified notification device (other than the times I use it to track workouts).
