Get better Woz

[–] aecarol1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When I was in the military in the early 90's, I helped host Woz when he came to Alaska for an F-15 ride (long story).

I was in the small party invited by the brass to a fancy dinner with him. After dinner, the "important people" left. Woz invited myself and three co-workers to his quarters (Air Force has a nice house on base for guests to stay in). We were all young (mid 20's) and working a computer project together that I had demo'd to him earlier in the day.

He spent 3 hours with us telling us war-stories, founding of Apple, time at HP, what he was doing now, etc. It was a fantiastical experience. He was very generous with his time and we felt special for having such unfettered access to a founder of modern personal computing.

I hope he recovers quickly. The world needs more time with Woz.

He sounds exactly as cool as I always imagined he would be. There seem to be no bad stories about Woz!

May he be well soon

Employee #1 get better, please.

Wishing him all the best - hoping nothing too serious. A month ago I drove past him on 101S near Palo Alto. He was easy to spot in his Model S with license plate “Woz”.

In 1982 my mom went to buy a really good typewriter and got talked into an Apple ][plus. I was 13 and my life course changed forever. Learned AppleSoft, then 6502 Assembly, and now am an IT Manager counting the days (well, years) 'til retirement when I'l have time to unpack my boxed (and in pieces) ][+ and //gs and being them back to life.

No this can't happen to the Woz, he's the best of humanity :(

When I was younger, maybe junior high, I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my sister got her hair done. So there I am, sitting in the waiting area of a hair salon with my niece, and who walks in but Steve Wozniak!

I was nervous as fuck, and just kept looking at him as he read a magazine and waited, but didn't know what to say. Pretty soon though my niece started crying, and I'm trying to quiet her down because I didn't want her to bother Wozniak, but she just wouldn't stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He started running his hands through her hair and asking what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So, Wozniak put down his magazine, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of a hair salon. Chill guy, really nice about it.

In Mexico City, what I've heard so far it appears to be a stroke and he was taken to Medica Sur, a hospital that has been ranked as the best hospital in Mexico for over a decade and is part of the Mayo Clinic care network, eg. has a direct working relationship with the Mayo Clinic and was the first hospital outside the US the Mayo Clinic selected for this program.
