What player in the NFL, past or present, would you have wanted to see succeed so badly but due to injuries, off the field issues, or whatever happened just derailed their career? For me it was unfortunate to see players like Josh Gordon or Justin Blackmon have their careers end or never getting back on track because of off-field issues.

One of my all time favorite college players. Rocket Ismail. I wanted him to go straight to the NFL.

Leonard Weaver, Eagles fullback. Joined the Eagles in 2009 and got first team All Pro. In 2010 he tore his ACL on the first carry, it was such a nasty injury and he never played another NFL snap.

That 2010 Eagles team was so good, and is kinda slept on because they got bounced in the Wildcard due to two flukey missed short FGs from a very solid kicker. The team that beat them was Aaron Rodgers' Packers who won the Superbowl that year.

So maybe in some bizarre alternate universe, Weaver stays healthy, the Birds win the Superbowl, Rodgers doesn't get a ring ever, Andy probably doesn't get fired after 2012 (what kind of team will fire a coach 2 years after bringing home the first Superbowl for a team?) and Mahomes never becomes Mahomes.

Leonard Weaver is the ultimate NFL butterfly effect

Jamarcus Russell. Dude could have been great if he wasn’t so lazy.

Also Calvin Johnson - if only he wasn’t on the Lions.

RIP Sean Taylor. Was already considered great from his 4 years in Washington. He was truly special.

Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon had a stretch that same year where they put up ridiculous yardage in back to back weeks

I think if we gave Darren McFadden a better offensive line to block for him he wouldn't have been injured so often and would have been a perennial all pro. he was absolutely electric in 2010 and the first half of 2011, but he could never stay fully healthy.

Easily Jason Verrett! All Pro rookie season followed be injury after injury every year! I really do feel bad for the guy

I always think about how Tyler Eifert's career would have progressed without injuries

Tim Couch if he was drafted by a good organization and sat behind a starter for a year or two along with a actual offense line he would have been a pro bowler at least.

Martavis Bryant looked poised to take over the league.

Percy Harvin. He was my favorite college player and was incredible as a rookie winning rookie of the year. Unfortunately injuries ruined what should have been a great career. It was a lot of fun seeing him tear it up in the Super Bowl though.

Ryan Shazier. Dude was quick and played with a passion.

Ricky Williams. I'll always maintain the NFL did him dirty. Still one of my favorite Dolphins.

Arthur Ernest Schlichter (/ˈʃliːstər/, born April 25, 1960) is an American former football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons with the Colts franchise. He also played one Canadian Football League (CFL) season with the Ottawa Rough Riders and three Arena Football League (AFL) seasons with the Detroit Drive and Cincinnati Rockers. A highly-touted collegiate prospect at Ohio State, Schlichter's professional career was cut short by a gambling addiction that resulted in him facing legal trouble for nearly four decades.
