Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

But Novik said that any such plan would require something that is just not realistic: a willing partner.

"There is no third party that is going to take responsibility for Gaza and release Israel from the burden of occupying it long term with its 2.3 million Palestinians. It's just not going to happen."

Nobody in media wants to acknowledge the fact that Israel is very explicitly stating that their goal in this war is complete control of Gaza and that that goal is predicated on those 2.3 million Palestinians not being alive, not being in Gaza, or both.

They're complicit

It's why they put genocide in scare quotes when it comes up regarding Palestinians despite bandying the term around Ukraine like it was the word of the day

Anyone who says "after the war ends" in this day and age sounds like a crazy person to me. When was the last time a war went the way anyone thought it would? When was the last time a war decided anything? When was the last time you could even declare that a war had ended at all? Saying "after the war" is cope.

When was the last time a war went the way anyone thought it would?

Iraq 1 under Bush Sr.

Kosovo under Clinton.

Even Afghanistan went reasonably smoothly (give or take a certain "oops we lost our guy in the mountains of Tora Bora, oh well!") for the first five years of invasion and occupation.

We likely could have gotten away with occupying Afghanistan indefinitely, if we'd just bombed the fuck out of Iraq, carved up the Sunni triangle and handed it to some combination of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and New Kurdistan, then scampering away under a Mission Accomplished banner. But Iraq was supposed to be the launchpad for our invasion of Syria and Iran. Rumfeld thought that this was going to be a new beginning rather than the graveyard of American empire.

Gaza is, if nothing else, small enough for Israel to just bulldoze through. This isn't a massive mountainous hinterland or a wide windswept desert. Its an oversized slum, with guns pointed at it from every angle. Gaza residents don't really have a chance against an Israeli invasion. Not if they really are just going to go house-to-house and murder everyone.

If Germany could get a stranglehold over Poland in the 1930s, Gaza doesn't stand a chance in the 2020s.

iraq turned out about how early 1990s dick cheney thought it would, and the occupation of afghanistan went about how i expected when i was years old, just took way longer.

i suspect ukraine is going exactly how nato-cool wants it to

"the ukraine invasion is eviler than u.s. military adventures because russia wants to annex territory"

Let's see if Israel still controls Israel after its war with Hamas ends

There is no need to worry about Netanyahu's long term goals. Everyone knows he will not be long term at this point. He will only stay in power for as long as he can pretend this is an ongoing national emergency, which is why he is stuck advocating for an eternal occupation. Next guy will also be terrible, but will probably see the benefits of just declaring victory and going home. Then he'll probably win a nobel peace price or something and resume the normal state of a slightly slower genocide.
