Lots of my students are from there and I want to understand their lives better. I had a very circuitous train of thoughts today after a very sweet student told me matter of fact "We don't eat pie in Guatemala." during a spelling test.

Bitter Fruit is a solid read that covers the 1954 coup in Guatemala as well as a decent chunk of the history on both sides of it.
