like this whole dog and pony show about taliban and tourists is wrapped round like 4 layers of racism i can't even begin to unpack it.
who would actually think its soOoo CrAzY that strangers were friendly to a tourist in any white country? (exception for scandies)
its only surprising that [enemy country] doesn't shoot white people on sight if you believed they'd held the same enmity you or your countrymen held toward them.
and besides that, The Taliban don't get together and decide "hey lets get this white boy lunch", a smattering of militiamen or a smalltime official being chummy is not "The Taliban" it's some people (maybe loosely) affiliated with the government. can you imagine coming to the US and like doing shots with post office employees being construed as "GREAT SATAN OFFERED ME DRINKS?"
