Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump has issued his latest threat to Iran and said that if officials fail to make a deal with the United States “the whole country is going to get blown up.”

The president also made threats Sunday morning to target civil infrastructure after it was reported that Iranian forces were refusing to allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this weekend.

What does he do on sundays that gets him so riled up?

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 13 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

So that relatively small group of soldiers sitting in boats far from shore without adequate food or supplies are going to crush the much larger and entrenched entire Iranian military now huh. Sounds real scary.

One silver lining to all this is that evidently Trump has learned that its harder to attack a mid sized country halfway around the world --without allies-- than it is to attack some unarmed civilians trying to get to work in portland or minneapolis.

Progress of a sort.

[–] KbSez@piefed.social 10 points 3 hours ago

oh yeah... that'll work.

Just like when he told everyone the Straight was open and for some reason Iran didn't believe him

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 12 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Is this a new threat to blow up the country, after his last threat to do so where he claimed to have gotten a ceasefire (which Israel breached on Lebanon less than 24 hours later)?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 57 points 5 hours ago

One trick pony

[–] shiv@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 hours ago (6 children)

Absolutely crazy to me no one has shot this guy yet.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

A lot of people rooting for the fall of the west.

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

You do realize that it's a hard thing to do?

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 1 points 23 minutes ago* (last edited 22 minutes ago)

It is, but at the same time it happens very often. Was it half or 1/3 of all US presdents died by being shot? And most of those were not actively trying to destroy their own country and any international relations it had.

Just need some teamwork

If ONLY there was SOMETHING we Could do to STOP this!

-Congresspeople doing NOTHING to Stop this!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Idk, I think I'm going to scream at voters for this. Primarily leftist voters, though. I still think I can win over the conservative voters and Congress critters by being nice to them.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Really it's the left's fault for wanting basic human rights and an end to genocide. The Democratic party simply can't accommodate such extremist views /s

USA by criminals for criminals. Absolutely disgusting country, just as bad as Putin's Russia.
To the American population: The fact that you elected this corrupt criminal pedophile malignant narcissist of a moron twice will never be forgotten - never!

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 40 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (2 children)

will never be forgotten

Sadly, you're wrong. It will be forgotten. That's why history keeps repeating itself.

If people didn't forget, they wouldn't have voted for fascists. After the war, people swore they would never forget the horrors of fascism either. And yet... Trump is soiling the White House today.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Has Hitler been forgotten?
This time it's even worse, because Americans have been taught about Hitler and Nazism and the horrors that follow with authoritarian governments.
Americans have no excuse, they should have learned enough from history to not repeat the mistakes of Nazism.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

To be fair, it was different people.

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Certainly wasn't America saying that

[–] GardenVarietyAnxiety@lemmy.world 17 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Hell yeah! This is why Germany is still shunned by the global population after all these years.

[–] classic@fedia.io 7 points 4 hours ago

And why Germany has no right wing influence now

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Yeah but was just Hitler. We're talking about Trump here.

/s just in case

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world -1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Has it been forgotten, if you mention Hitler, does anyone still remember? No it will not be forgotten, just as the USA helping Europe hasn’t been forgotten. But the reason Germany was slowly forgiven was first that they were split in 2 making the power of Germany smaller, it was a different time, with no prior historical lesson to learn from regarding Nazism. and that the political environment in both parts of Germany was changed completely, with Western Germany taking responsibility more than any country had done before them.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

I'd argue it's worse, the Russians didn't exactly elect theirs

I blame the criminally passive GOP congresscritters and senators for letting Trump and his fascist henchmen destroy the country. All it would take is for a few of them to agree to 25th Trump's ass and impeach Vance and Kegbreath for this madnest to end right this minute.

History will not be kind to them, and I hope the courts will hold them accountable for what they did one day too.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 4 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

You kidding me. Once this fucker is gone, every single one of them will decide that the orange lying asshole was the only problem, and will reliably pull their team’s lever again and again…

Edit - goddamned autocorrect.

[–] freshcow@lemmy.world 17 points 5 hours ago

Don't let them or the media convince you that their actions are passive. They have had many opportunities to put the brakes on this administration, and every time they deliberately side with Trump. Every Republican congressperson is complicit with his agenda.

Threaten and do nothing.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 16 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Trump talks the talk, but I would be surprised if the Iranians didn't quietly start to walk the walk and prepare some blowing up of their own.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I don't think either of them have been shy about blowing shit up.

I do think France is slowly manufacturing consent to involve itself on behalf of Israel. If the EU sides with the US in this fight, it could get very ugly for Iran.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 hours ago

I made a non-credible diplomacy meme for this weekend's version of the TACO meal prep.

[–] duckshuffgoose@piefed.social 4 points 5 hours ago

this is so last week...oh, wait...

[–] jasoman@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Just wait for the TACO
