Vampires

"Few creatures of the night have captured our imagination like vampires.
What explains our enduring fascination with vampires? Is it the overtones of sexual lust, power, control? Or is it a fascination with the immortality of the undead?"

Feel free to post any vampire-related content here. I'll be posting various vampire media I enjoy just as a way of kickstarting this community but don't let that stop you from posting something else. I just wanted a place to discuss vampire movies, books, games, etc.

For Action Vampire Movies:
5. Dracula Untold
4. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
3. Van Helsing
2. From Dusk Till Dawn

  1. Blade

For Non-Action Movies:
5.Daybreakers
4. Sinners
3. Shadow of the Vampire
2. Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)

  1. Interview with the Vampire

And Honorable Mentions:
6. Love at first Bite
5. Dracula: Dead and Loving it
4. Renfield
3. The Breed
2. The Last Voyage of the Demeter

  1. Vampire's Kiss

Making a top 5 list is so hard! There are tons of great (and so bad their great) movies in all different genre. I didn't even mention any of the Christopher Lee movies, and sometimes you just want to revisit the old Universal monsters. The Spanish language version of the 1931 Dracula also doesn't get nearly enough love. This is a great way to remind yourself that fans of vampire movies are spoiled by choice compared to other supernatural mythos movies.

  • Lost Boys
  • Nosferatu (1922)
  • A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
  • Near Dark
  • Sinners

Five is hard to pare down to. I haven't seen Near Dark enough on these comments, if y'all haven't seen it, go watch it.

30 Days of Night. Let the Right One In. WWDITS. Fright Night (85), Nosferatu (24)

Daybreakers was quite original.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 2 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, Daybreakers is great! I watched it a few weeks ago and the film has made it into my top 3.

  • 'Let the Right One In'. A huge slap in the face the first time I watched it (I rushed to go buy the novel, the following morning).
  • 'The Lost Boys'. I've not watched in many years, so I'm not sure it woudl keep its top 5 status but I really liked it a lot.
  • 'Interview with the Vampire'. I expected very little from that movie. I was blown away.
  • 'From Dusk til Dawn'. Because, obviously.
  • 'Nosferatu' (1922). Of course.

The Lost Boys is still a lot of fun.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 3 points 6 hours ago

All great movies. Let the right one in (the Swedish version of 2008; I haven't seen the American remake) is my No. 1 vampire movie. I love it! How did you like the book?

Blood Rayne Underworld We are the Night

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

I played that computer game "Blood Rayne" many years ago, but I haven’t seen the film.

You guys need to see Only Lovers Left Alive. Directed by Jim Jarmusch, starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, that's a good one as well.

  • Nosferatu (2024)
  • Dracula (1992)
  • Nosferatu (1979)
  • Lost Boys
  • Blade
[–] Alinska@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

Although I prefer Nosferatu from 1922, Nosferatu 1979 is also a great movie. Blade is my favourite vampire action movie. The opening scene (the blood shower) is one of my all-time favourite scenes in vampire films. And lf course, the lost boys is a cult classic

[–] discoplasm@piefed.zip 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

in no particular order:

  • Near Dark
  • Ganja & Hess
  • The Lost Boys
  • Blade
  • Dracula (1958)
[–] Alinska@feddit.org 5 points 10 hours ago

Great selection of films. I love Near Dark. The way the film uses sunlight as a threat is brilliant.

What We Do In The Shadows

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter

Night Watch and Day Watch (two separate movies)

Sinners

And the best vampire movie of all time: Morbius

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, Sinners is great! What we do in the shadows is a lot of fun, although I like the tv-show even more. The other films I haven't seen yet. Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter and Morbius I’ve never even heard of before. I’m adding them to my watch list straight away. πŸ™Œ

[–] teft@piefed.social 6 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh god, don't add morbius. That was a joke. That movie is horrible, lol.

The others are actually good, though.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 2 points 6 hours ago

XDD OK! (I've never heard about it.πŸ˜…)

  1. Interview With the Vampire
  2. From Dusk til Dawn
  3. Sinners
  4. Nosferatu (2024)
  5. Blade
[–] Alinska@feddit.org 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They're all great films. Blade, Sinners, Interview with the vampire & Nosferatu (1922) are among my favourite vampire movies as well. Which Nosferatu movie do you like best?

[–] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I should have specified, 2024. I've seen the 22 one and it's alright but it's a little too of its time for me

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

I love the 1922 movie. Of course you can't compare it with a modern movie, but Max Schreck as Nosferatu is great and I like the way shadows are used as a technique.

[–] jericho_cross@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the worst vampire movie with the best soundtrack. That would be Queen of the Damned.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 2 points 8 hours ago

Haven't seen Queen of the Damned, but it's got Aaliyah, so it must have SOME redeeming quality beyond soundtrack. Beyond the soundtrack, "Gothic Vampires from Hell" has NO redeeming qualities. And I guess "worst with the best" would be an average of redeeming qualities with negative qualities.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I love it, that Sinners is mentioned so often.

Thanks for the links to the movies. Vampire Circus sounds very interesting. I'll put it on my watch list. And I'm now curious about your honorable mentioned movies. XD I think, I'll give them a go as well, one day

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Vampire Circus is a bad movie that is still fun to watch (especially with other people). The "Honorable Mentions" are bad movies that are no fun to watch.

[–] Alinska@feddit.org 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

As long as it is fun to watch, I don't care if it is a bad movie. E.g. I had fun with "priest" and well.... I wouldn't call it a good movie πŸ˜
