Not seen any evidence that this is a research diver, and the behavior seems to prove he's not.

As a diver, fuck this dude. You don't touch wildlife while diving. If it's ugly leave it alone, if it's pretty leave it alone, if it's unusual leave it alone. They teach everyone this and other divers will call you out on doing this shit.

Just fucking leave it alone.

I feel like the ink defense might have been a clue that the octopus wasn’t in the mood to be manhandled.

I'd like to say that I appreciate seeing posts with a video embed instead of a YouTube link or other closed platforms.

He levers it off a rock and still grabs at it while it's smokescreening and trying to escape. Hope he actually learned a lesson or next time it should finish the job.

Definitely a case of FAAFO

[–] clif@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fuck around and find octopus?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I guess that applies!

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

That is what seemed to happen in the video.

[–] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 1 day ago

Entirely deserved

I hope the octopus is ok, what a stupid diver

That was a knife he grabbed...

Probably razor sharp.

Cameraman willing to let his friend die for the tictoc likes.

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 52 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Totally deserved it. I was rooting for the octopus the whole time

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 day ago

No, don't help, keep it in focus

[–] radiouser@crazypeople.online 27 points 1 day ago

Good on the octopus.

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh, diver. I thought i was going to see an octopus attempt a carjacking.

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If an octopus is armed and stealing my car I’m letting him. Lil guy has somewhere to be.

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They're one of the most armed species, unless you start counting stuff with little bitty arms like bugs.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 7 points 1 day ago

Equally as possible, I think.

Cameraman is cameraman. Deserves more camera. Diver is a dumb ass.

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

AI doesn't carry a dive-knife.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

I’ve seen enough hentai to know where this is going.

*Diver nearly wins Darwin award entitled "octopus solves new problem".
