To be fair, declaring war on the pope is a time honoured Christian tradition.
When politicians talk about religion and when the clergy talk about politics, you know things are upside down.

Sounds like a threat.
Apparently, back in January, a State Department official made a reference to the Avignon Papacy to the Vatican’s chief diplomat.
For those not familiar with the geopolitical history of Europe and the Catholic Church, this was a period in the 1300s where the French monarchy did their level best to basically co-opt and strong arm the church so they could squeeze money out of them, and led to a schism for a time.
Put another way: that is by far the most thinly-veiled direct threat I’ve ever heard anyone make to the Vatican in my life.

I believe, as does the Death of the Discworld, that after death, everyone is getting exactly what they think they deserve. The Hindus get reincarnated. The Hellenists go to Hades. So keen to see what the pope does this week. TBH never been so invested in the pope or his beefs.
The amount of crazy interactions I have slight obsessions over has increased lately. In the last week Iran being bombed, the Hungarian election and now I have a ton of questions on the military tactics of invading the Vatican City. I wonder if there’s secret oil under it…or maybe some attractive Venetian sofas.
