Just a reminder that ICE vans do have catalytic converters.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

This isn't even remotely true, but I'm not bothered with anyone trying to convince crack heads to tear down surveillance state equipment.

[–] krispyavuz@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

There are 2 apples and 3 bananas. Wait. That doesn’t add up does it? 🙃😝

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago

Does this come in bumper sticker?

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

The stoopid in me read 3gigs of gold 🤦

[–] UndergroundParking@lemmy.cafe 103 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Pounds and grams in a single sentence! Who are you trying to confuse? Everyone?!

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The people who would care about this likely are accustomed to using grams for some measurements

We ain’t out here buying drugs by the pound. It’s grams and ounces unless you’re a shotter but even then you buying in ounces and kilos.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 38 points 1 week ago (3 children)

28 grams in an ounce, ask me how I know...

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Stoner? Or very heavy coke user 😂

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Former stoner. Multiple times a day every day for years. Never thought I could imagine life without weed, but eventually it turned into a personal little hell that I couldn't escape. I kept smoking even long after I stopped enjoying it, long after I knew I needed to stop, and even long after I wanted to stop.

One day I woke up and decided I didn't need it anymore. It was still challenging to toss my stash and equipment (which I had done dozens of times over the years), but eventually I did and it was the start of a T-break that will never end. I haven't looked back since, and life still isn't perfect now but I'm grateful to be able to approach it with a clear head, and a body which actually listens when I tell it to get up and go do something.

[–] Technoworcester@feddit.uk 4 points 6 days ago

Well done man and congrats.

[–] percent 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not in a troy ounce though

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 days ago

Hey I think I know troy. That bastard shorts you every time. His ounces certainly don't weigh 28 grams, you're right about that!

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well you wouldn't say 0.006613868 lbs of gold would you?

[–] UndergroundParking@lemmy.cafe 1 points 6 days ago

No, but I would say "just shy of 1kg of copper"!

[–] joan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

i thought america uses grams for gold

[–] potatopotato@sh.itjust.works 67 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Fuck copper there's literally two pounds of lithium in each one

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

two pounds of lithium?how many pounds of ions? i might know a guy

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

That should keep the depressions at bay for a week or so.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Probably a geolocation device as well. Be careful out there.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Don’t forget your wire mesh bags folks!

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

Steel toolboxes work even better, plus you can cosplay as a repair tech and wear a hard hat and reflective vest. Don’t forget your clip board and osha gloves!

[–] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 week ago

Alternatively, smash them to bits to help your local crackhead access the components more easily!

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I kinda doubt that is true but steal em anyways

[–] errer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I mean when they look like this I don’t doubt it

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

What is a flock camera? Is it like ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) in the UK?

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yes but in UK GDPR protects the footage and information it captures from being sold. Your parking lot can only use it to fine for parking, if government wants it, "in theory" they need a Warrent.

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 68 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We call 'em ALPRs (Automated License Plate Readers) here, but yeah it's essentially the same thing.

Their cameras are regularly abused by police officers to stalk ex's, have begun to be used outside their original scope, can be used illegally by one agency on behalf of another that shouldn't have access, and have been used by Flock employees to, without permission from local authorities and against their own public statements, watch children in a gym for hours while partially erasing audit logs.

They also use Flock to monitor protestors, and track abortion seekers, all while lying about their effectiveness in preventing crime, threatening people who follow their actions, and leaving countless cameras publicly exposed without password protection, covering up vulnerabilities, and lying to city officials about Flock officials watching cameras, like the ones spying on children.

They're really fucked up, and it's my stance that the CEO of the company and any of the employees watching footage without consent should be criminally charged for espionage, and defrauding the public, among other things.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 33 points 1 week ago

Referencing claims is the Lord's work.

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Aww that's disappointing but not surprising. I saw the headline of your third link and I was like "Damn cool move by wildlife conservation police, they're helping people identify and track ICE agents and raids". But of course that's not what "monitoring for ICE" means, it means they're helping ICE by monitoring the cameras for protestors.

I thought the same thing when I first read it!

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, but with AI and evilness

[–] beveradb@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago

And built, deployed and controlled by a private company with no accountability and plenty of bribery/corruption

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They don't just read plated. They'll recognize scratches and dents on specific vehicles and also facial recognition. Basically complete human and machine tracking. Cities with flock cameras everywhere can track every move you make.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To add to the great info already here, Flock is a private company. Think like Ring doorbells but for "Traffic Cameras". They are mainly used to bypass laws and constitutional rights because its a for profit business. They have weaseled their way into entire cities. They not only provide back door access to any agency that pays, but they are actively building profiles on everyone they record. They know where you live, what you drive, when you work, where you work, how many people are in your family. They store all this without our consent or even notifying anyone.
Here's a site that explains more and has an interactive map that shows where the cameras are located. https://deflock.org/

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

Looking forward to the headlines when some unknown heros burn these datacenters to the ground like that warehouse in California.

Or maybe some hackers wipe all the data.

It's like the Ring of Power, it can't be used for good. The power itself will corrupt anyone who tries to use it. It must be destroyed.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Could we also remind people of the price of copper per pound?

[–] restingOface@quokk.au 7 points 1 week ago

Too volatile. Look it up yourself for your region at the given moment.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not a whole lot. Only around $5 a pound. If there really is 3 grams of gold and you got the chemicals to dissolve and collect it safely, that's worth waaay more. 3g of gold would be worth around $500.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Based on this we should be able to get a live scrap value for each Flock camera.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not sure how I feel about your downvotes. Do that many people just automatically downvotes at a joke without even realizing it's a joke on the name?

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago

Reading is hard for some people I guess haha

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Is X including full timestamps in its posts now, or is this some special setting?
