This is typically a question asked by bigots of one flavor or another so it's hard to answer the question unless you give a concrete example of something you may like to say that you're afraid would be censored.
Just Left Reddit
Share and discuss your reason(s) for ultimately leaving Reddit for good.
The word FUCK ..... very snarky or presumptuous of you.
Probably one of the top defederated instances. There is a reason they are so often defederated, and that is due to having little to no restrictions and all of the problems that causes.
That link don't work
Depends what you mean by 'free speech'.
Generally, almost every instance has more relaxed rules than you'd find on reddit, but they all do have rules. You'll want to pick an instance that shares the same ideas as you about what is and isn't acceptable to say.
I take none of this online stuff seriously and I would even be curious to see the "no go zone" just to see the hogs rolling in the mud. It appears I belong no where I suppose.
and I would even be curious to see the “no go zone”
Nobody is hosing a 'no go zone' instance, because nobody wants to spend all their time in such a place.
Have you considered hosting your own hog-rolling instance?
Aww sheet you think I am a hog thats hilarious... are there tutorials turd nugget? ... I am kinda of a dumb dumb clearly
While most Lemmy and Piefed instances are not tolerant of hate speech (sexism, racism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, etc.) disguised as 'free speech', most other rules are enforced at the community (subreddit) level.
In terms of picking an instance, I wouldn't recommend lemmygrad.ml, lemmy.ml, or hexbear.net due to their extreme views. Of the remainder, I recommend choosing one from the Lemmy Federate list; those with auto-add (not discuss.tchncs.de, among others) automatically federate new communities to ensure they are searchable.
For maximum access, I also wouldn't recommend choosing instances that are defederated from at least one other major instance (beehaw.org, lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, lemmy.dbzer0.com, quokk.au, anarchist.nexus, feddit.org, and lemmynsfw.com; fedinsfw.app is new and seemingly not defederated yet from major instances, but might get defederated by non-NSFW instances).
Taking the above recommendations into account, this leaves us with the following Lemmy and Piefed instances with over 250 or 100 monthly active users:
[Lemmy] (250+ MAU)
- lemmy.zip
- lemmy.ca
- lemmy.blahaj.zone
- programming.dev
- sopuli.xyz
- lemmy.today
- feddit.uk
- infosec.pub
- reddthat.com
[Piefed] (100+ MAU)
- piefed.social
- piefed.ca
- piefed.blahaj.zone
- piefed.world
- feddit.online
(tap the Lemmy/Piefed links to view the full lists)
A key point of differentiation between instances is which instances they choose to defederate; this controls which instances you're able to find content from. You can use the Federation Checker to find this list for any given instance.
Ultimately, review the policies and focus of any given instance to find the one that suits your preferences best.
