Triumphal arch would be 250ft tall, featuring a 60ft golden Lady Liberty, at the foot of Arlington Memorial Bridge

The Trump administration on Friday released new renderings of the triumphal arch the president wants to install in Memorial Circle at the foot of the Arlington Memorial Bridge.

As part of Donald Trump’s legacy-building quest during his second term in office, the so-called “Arc de Trump” would stand 250ft tall, feature a 60ft golden Lady Liberty, and include a viewing deck. The phrase “One Nation Under God” would stretch across the top of the structure, according to the latest plans from Harrison Design.

The mock-up was submitted to the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), who are next due to meet on 16 April to consider the proposal.

Fucking waste of resources

Also known as the Washington public urinal.

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago

Lmao it's literally a wish.com arc de triomphe.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Looks like the Zeppelintribüne thing the soldiers blew up in WW2 Germany.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 1 points 5 hours ago

And that road is a major commuter route into the city—traffic will be chaos while they’re building this. (Unless he throws up some cheap ass plaster thing).

What "triumph" is this arc going to celebrate? Overcoming democracy and rule of law in the USA?

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Trump's electoral victories (probably). Because he's an asshole.

We can't fucking build this thing. Holy hell tell me somebody in Washington can at least block this vanity project for 3 years.

What a monumental waste of money. Can we rename it as a monument to children that suffered sexual abuse or do we have to tear it all the way down?

Arc de Dump

Hey, if you work construction and are on the crew for this, I'll personally give you 10 bags of sugar to add to the concrete. If that's not what's needed, lemme know what bolt sizes you'll need and I'll order them express from Temu.

[–] paranoia@feddit.dk 32 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

Sugar is too obvious for such sabotage as the concrete will just not harden. What you need to do is add more water into the mix to make it weaker, and then slop off the surface water to force it to cure too quickly. Salt in the mix is an accelerant and will induce cracking/spalling.

If I had control over the total mix I would try to substitute a contaminated aggregate (e.g., pyrites).

I wonder if you could doubleshot concrete- cast a giant dildo inside with good concrete so that the arch crumbles away into it.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 5 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

I mean you’d need to have both good and bad concrete on site and you’d need a mold of the dick so you could inject the good concrete into it but then pull it away after the bad stuff was in place around it and without forming and curing the dick first and then lowering it into place within the outer mold I don’t know how you’d do this

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Well probably the stealthy way to do it is to prefab the interior shape, coat it with whatever finish and such then a ton of mold release.

Place it into the form overnight and then pour the bad stuff around it.

But this assumes the arch is a solid casting. I suppose you could build out the dildo in slices, and then stack the slices for each fresh layer.

I just think this would be a hilarious escalation of the art war

Edit: Hey, contractors. You know that trump doesn't pay his contractors, right? Just saying...

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago

This is the info we need.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The phrase “One Nation Under God” would stretch across the top

They gonna etch in someone shitting on the US flag as well?

[–] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 3 points 13 hours ago

But in Trump's mind, he IS God, so he pictures "one nation under him"

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 13 points 16 hours ago

The man who has destroyed more of American liberty wants to build a 60' statue to Lady Liberty. Somehow it feels fitting that his monuments would be full of as much shit as his pants at a press conference.

Perfectly captures the spirit of our time

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 7 points 15 hours ago

So on one end of the bridge, you'd have the Lincoln Memorial. And at the other, you'd have gilded Temu Arc de Triomphe knockoff.

It wouldn't be possible to visit Arlington National Cemetery without thinking of our Dear Leader.

Maybe we deserve it.

[–] Naich@piefed.world 7 points 16 hours ago

How come there's no rendering of the image of Dear Leader himself on it? What sort of half arsed narcissist despotic tyrant have you got over there?

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Adding it to the "maybe" column of my objects-to-piss-on-before-I-die list until I know whether it's really going to be built.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Right on the flight path to National. I suspect the FAA will have enough things to say about this that it will get held up until he’s dead or out of office, whichever comes first.

[–] stephen@lazysoci.al 6 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

I’d hope you’re right, but would the FAA be concerned with something hint 310’ tall? Seems low for aircraft, but I don’t know where the FAA’s domain starts and stops.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It doesn't really matter, if any part of it gets built, we're going to tear it right the fuck down.

[–] one_step_behind@quokk.au 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I'll believe that when I see it...

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 2 points 16 hours ago

Personally I think it’s too close to the river; if it were another couple hundred feet inland it would probably be better. But I am not a pilot and don’t play one on tv. At the very least they'd have to put an aircraft warning light on top.

[–] drzoidberg@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

Oh that doesn't look like Hitlers Arch of Triumph at all.
