I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.

If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.

Both quotes attributed to Richard Feynman.

I can do (some of) the maths, but I definitely can't explain why any of it is like that, or how it works.

[–] minkymunkey_7_7@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

We all end up looking at cats in boxes pictures on the internet whenever we start to try to understand oh wow this cat is funny.

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

I like watching it in action. I don't know what the hell is going on, but it gives me a strange kind of peace, and if you stare at it long enough, you trick yourself into thinking that it makes some kind of sense.

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

Such a warrior!

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 231 points 22 hours ago (5 children)

It's hard to explain quantum mechanics when you don't understand them.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 26 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I understand them! They perform oil changes on the quantum

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 6 points 12 hours ago

They're so good they fix your car on the quantum level!

Thats the joke!

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 174 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

It's hard to explain quantum mechanics even when you understand them.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 39 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

There’s an old joke about quantum mechanics professors starting their first lecture with something along the lines of “right now, some of you probably understand quantum mechanics. By the end of the semester, if I did my job right, none of us will understand it.”

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 7 points 12 hours ago

If they're lucky they might understand kubernetes though.

Iirc, it's a youtube video of an actual class

It's a superposition of knowledge and ignorance.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 75 points 22 hours ago (5 children)

The more you know the less you know

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Sometimes I get the sense that I have a clear picture of quantum mechanics. But when I look closer, it gets all blurry.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 45 points 21 hours ago

Congratulations, you’ve successfully explained quantum mechanics.

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

This isn't even a joke, it's literally true in quantum mechanics.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 37 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Thank you for explaining the joke, I now know less.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 14 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You know nothing, but you know precisely about what you know nothing.

[–] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 hours ago

Only before you check, though.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 5 points 20 hours ago

The more you know of one thing the less you know of the other*

I thought that was like its thing. It doesn't really make sense.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 35 points 20 hours ago (5 children)

No one understands quantum mechanics

[–] spankinspinach@sh.itjust.works 5 points 16 hours ago

Whoa. Blakeception

[–] hateisreality@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

You both understand and don't understand quantum mechanics at the same time... It's that simple, that is until such a point at which becomes known as to whether or not you understand or don't understand quantum physics and then some kind of quantum tunnel collapses?

No habla English

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Vos me queres decir que entender mecanica cuantica es como entender el final de evangelion?

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

The waves of this comment collapsed into photons entering my eyes showing me a joke about superposition once I observed it.

You should Hadamard again to reverse the superposition.

That was the point, right?

[–] PartyAt15thAndSummit@lemmy.zip 6 points 16 hours ago

It's hard to explain jokes when you don't understand them.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 60 points 22 hours ago

Cropped so I get the authentic glaucoma experience.

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 19 points 21 hours ago

A delightful character arc.
