Hi all! I am sooooo excited that I have my second session today and I need to tell someone!

Since the first session was just the getting to know each other, rough plans, aims and so on, I am excited to see what this session brings.

I am hopeful that we can work out a proper plan for the future and that I am not just in a phase. I am low key hoping that HRT is going to be discussed soon because I ordered yesterday in a slight dysphoria filed shopping spree a coat and if it fits I’d transition just to wear it!

The coat for the interested

Also also, where can I pick up basic makeup skills? Like I need a 101 and ELI5 because I only know (and love) eyeliner + eye shadow. I know nothing else.

If you are interested in how to do Makeup, you can also look out for Videos explaining how to paint faces for miniatures. Its basically the same.

eyeliner and shadow is like, the hardest part so you have that going for you :) most days I just use concealer and eyeliner, just to cover stubble and acne. but when I'm prettying up here's my tldr ->

wash face, shave, dry

primer! always use primer before any makeup

concealer (I like covergirl liquid concealer) under eyes, on bridge below nose, chin, and any acne or problem areas

foundation all over (also covergirl liquid), I use one pump to keep it from caking on too bad

blush! i use a big brush with some red blush from my cheeks up to above my ears (less up there ofc)

eye-shadow next, I love black and dark red but any look good IMO. start from the inside of your eye (by your nose) and lightly brush out until its as thick as you like

eyeliner yay best part, I have these awesome wing stamps my mom gave me, idk the brand but look thar up lol. once I stamp the wings as far out as I want I fill the rest in with nix liquid eyeliner, less below the eye than on top, usually none below the eye unless I'm feeling extra.

also you can use it as you like for flare, I'll draw streaks down my cheek a bit to simulate tears or do two wings or whatever you want! have fun with it

mascara is pretty simple, just brush it on your lashes as you like

lipstick is last, its a cherry on top. i live black lipstick but its so hard to get right. usually I'll just use a light pink if I use it at all

hope this helped and congrats :)

This is amazing thank you!!!!! You make it sound soo easy, hopefully I’ll be good at some point.

But this is sooo exciting already I shall try it as soon as I worked up some courage to buy supplies and all that :3

its simpler than you might think :) keep it basic for now and you'll improve over time!

As far as makeup goes, a little foundation goes a long way, find a tonr that works for you (plenty of guides out there for picking the color) i use a full-coverage, it makes blemishes and facial hair shadows blend in. A concealer can also help if you have particularly high contrasting "blemishes". Searching you favorite video hosting platforms will yield many make-up guides and tutorials. Find a streamer/creator who has similar hair color/complexion as you and wing it. Worst case scenario you grab the makeup remover wipes and try again.

Thanks, I have a look then at foundations and concealers.

What is the difference between the two? Do I only use one or both together?

A foundation is for a base coat all over, then put concealer over blemishes, shadows, under the eyes, etc. I also use blush to put back color in the cheeks, chin, and around the nose, then dust it all over with a transparent powder :3

Thanks, that is a great basis for me to start looking into it! Much appreciated.

Couldn't have put it better.

Damn, that IS a cute coat! 💛 Glad to hear your session went so well, thank you for sharing. I was told I'll get one myself soon, looking forward to it.

I hope you get one that’s great for you too! I was really fortunate to hit a therapist that works so well with and for me right of the bat, without hassle. I heard a few too many stories of ppl. Having to swap their therapist a couple of times before they found the right one and at least so far I think she has been amazing!

Edit: also I am happy to hear you like the coat! Hopefully it fits me well :)

So basic makeup skills can be learned a few ways. A lot of people swear by tutorials like on YouTube/tiktok/wherever, but I never did. Alternatively or additionally look at communities like makeupaddiction on reddit and when you like something seriously look at what they did in order to do it. You'll start to notice techniques that you can adapt for your own purposes.

Practice is going to be the most important thing, just try it out on nights you're staying in (there's a faction of us who learned while recovering from bottom surgery for that reason).

And in that vein, learning what looks good on you will involve learning what colors work with you. I looked awful in the first lipstick I tried because I went with something moderate and ordinary. However with my skin, hair, and eye colors if I'm not going subdued (at which point I personally don't wear any makeup because my face is plenty fine as is, yes I did read a lot of feminism while transitioning), then I'm better off going with dark colors, including lip shades that I've had to give cis women courage to try.

So yeah, trial and error, if you've got any specific questions though I'm happy to share some of what I've learned

Thanks, I will get back to you once I hade my first hand on experience. Any tips on how to judge what is a good fit and what is not? Because ATM whenever I see myself I am not exactly happy with the face and I worry it will transfer over to when I try make up for the first time, as in that I will be hypercritical or not a good / reliable judge of what I see.

that coat is goooooooorgeous! I want one!

Also, that's awesome about the psych session. I hope it goes well for you :)

[–] MapleFawn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I know! I am mad in love with it! I might just torch a place or two if it doesn’t fit me :X

Nice! Hope good things are coming your way.

Congrats! Therapy is so great once you get used to it. I feel lucky that I've been in therapy on and off my whole life and always encouraged to talk out my feelings at home. I have an appointment next week and will be talking about this part of my life for the first time. I even sent him a link to my realization posts on Transfem.

That coat is super cute and it comes in purple?!?!?! Gotta have it! How dare you feed my shopping addiction lol. Honestly I've been having so much fun femme shopping.

Hope you have a wonderful day and a good session with your therapist!

♡♡♡Nissa♡♡♡

[–] MapleFawn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Thanks! Yes I was very tempted to buy the purple one as well but my financially more responsible wife told me to choose one.. I apologise that I may have fed your addiction so I strongly recommend do not click on other products on the side or you will be left wanting for more. I still have about 40 items on my wishlist there :X

The session was great, we made good progress but it is really hard to do each topic justice in just 45 min at a time. There is such sooooo much I want and need to talk about. Kinda wants me to have a second and third therapist :D distribution of labour so to speak.
