I'm either too young or too old. I have no idea how to read that screenshot - what direction, who to attribute which comment to, or what they are implying / referencing.

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.
~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 3. Use spoiler tags.
Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.
~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'
~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.
Fun will now commence.

The basic gist: "yuttikkele" is the one making the posts about watching Star trek for the first time, the user "self-made-purgatories" is being helpful by mentioning a set of hashtags that were on some of the earlier posts by "yuttikkele" the rest of the exchanges are in chronological order from top to bottom. The user "trekheritageposts" has compiled all of this into a quote to archive the journey of discovery that "yuttikkele" has experienced.
Thanks, but what's the significance of the hashtags? Who added those?
Uhh the people making the posts/comments added them. You can "tag" (apply a label to) your posts.

Start wherever you like, really. There are different lists out there for intros to Trek. Just jump in with an open mind and spirit of adventure. You'll encounter out of date notions and attitudes throughout, each a product of their time. End of, it's fun and addictive.
Watching through a few series lately after several major queer revelations about myself and yeah, sooo many dated ideas. What really gets me is the ubiquitous assumptions of amatanormativity and heteronormativity. No queer people, no nonmonogamous people, only accidental neurodivergent characters, half the cultures expect marriage if two people bang once, basically every culture except the federation and borg are capitalist. I also realized I hate the fact that starfleet has such a restrictive dress code. No one has a unique or interesting hair style, no one has piercings, one person in all of old trek has a tattoo and it's tiny, everyone in the same lame uniform all the time or even more lame civilian clothes unless they're cosplaying on the holodeck. For all their talk of individuality they have an incredibly homogenous culture.
Not to say I don't still love it. I've watched everything up through Enterprise several times each at least. It is interesting seeing it with new eyes though, now that I'm so much more aware of the wide array of human diversity in real life.
This scene rather speaks for itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW5Qx7jU9pU
But if you really want to be convinced, I've gotta recommend this deep dive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiW3wOUgBTY
Obviously rife with spoilers for both TOS and the films, though.
I've been recommending Voyager as a good one to start with. They're immediately flung to the opposite side of the galaxy, no lore to know, hella Borg stuff, wheelin' deelin' to get home, fewer moralistic messaging, hijinx ensue. They have to smoosh crews with revolutionaries out the gate, an interesting way to interrogate the hierarchical structure of Starfleet. Jeri Ryan's, Borg drone Seven of Nine comes along in season 4 and is a fucking revelation, some of the best character stuff. And peak Jeri Taylor, the VOY head writer with TNG roots.
I love Voyager, but it is one of the series that fans hate on, for some reason. Other than the GOAT ST:NG, the best series is generally considered DS9. The final story arc in the last season is some of the most exciting TV ever.
Enterprise and Discovery are the dogs.
Voyager is the one older Trek show that, as a whole, just doesn't catch me. There's too many episodes that feel like filler, and the show doesn't seem to care about it's premise all that much.
older Trek show
I am turning into dust as I read this.
The older Trek shows are and will always be limited to TOS and TAS.
Oh, you mean the ancient trek shows? From the pre-historic times?
I believe the preferred nomenclature is "Prime Timeline" for the 90s shows. At least that's what feels best in my dusty bones.
Is it super crunchy for anyone else? No way to read the text on boost for android.
The low quality preview is a bit choppy for sure, but opening the image and clicking 'hd' will load the full image.
Fyi theres some settings related to this, eg if you have fast enough data you can set it to do a full load even in the feed.
Huh never noticed that. Thanks!
Yeah they call it shipping.
Though it's basically the same as Japanese boy love. Yaoi
