Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Back in the day r/showerthoughts was extremely rigidly moderated.

I have come to the conclusion that we need moderation like this here as well.

To clarify and justify the above statement, although technically anything a person thinks is a thought this really doesn't fit the spirit of the sub. This is a statement or a joke or a pun or all of the above.

I mean...it's definitely not a pun, and literally everything that isn't a question is a statement...I guess it's silly? Also I just feel like I am avoidant of any "make this more like reddit" ideas, because I've never really liked reddit, and Lemmy has always felt enjoyable.

Nah. I like when criminals are arrested by competent cops.

If cops suck it's a sign of deeper systemic issue. There's entire chain of training and discipline that fails behind a shitty police force

TBF I've never seen a sovereign citizen get arrested for something they didn't do. Usually that philosophy only makes itself known in a situation when somebody is trying to talk their way out of visibly breaking a law that you really have to go out of your way for

Sovcits only suck cos they subscribe to right-libertarian beliefs. They're so close to being cool anarchists but they always choose selfishness over selflessness. Still, acab, I'd rather work with sovcits than pigs.

Like if anarchists werent cool and didnt want to admit they were anarchists. Yes.

Someone should push anti-authoritarian/mutualism agendas to sovcits and convert them into cool anarchists. They are objectively easier to convince than MAGA.

I'm comfortable liking (the idea of, if not its reality) rule of law, while also hating cops.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I dont hate cops, I hate that they dont live up to the image they want us to believe and be worthy of the respect that they think they are owed.

Its actually sad that a dystopian facist parody such as Judge Dredd is actually fairer and more just than what we have now.

The FBI published a report that a huge number of police unions across the country were effectively run by KKK types, and all that happened was an expansion of the 1033 program and Killology seminars. Each and every cop is an enemy to whatever form of justice you hope for.

The law is so comforting...

Until you need to report a robbery in broad daylight and the cops literally are unable to find the theiving sonovabitch...

Also they never do shit against identity thieves...

Also if you are getting home invaded... good luck... better have your guns ready and BE ACTUALLY TRAINED TO AIM THE THING!

Cops will be here in like... 30 minutes...

lets hope you aim the home invader in the fucking head, shoot to kill, aint no cop is gonna save you, heck, they might "accidentally" shoot you... might as well skip the call, terminate the threat first, then you say "call an ambulance, call an ambulance... BUT NOT FOR ME"

JUST LIKE THE FOUNDERS HAVE INTENDED!

(okay this is half joking half serious... bur seriouslt cops aint saving you... especially in 'Murica)

Tally ho lads!

Of course not. And when we say their real job is to protect property, we don't mean "poor people's property" - perish the thought.

If the USA police force was different than it is now like we imagine it with support services that they're forced into without knowledge or training, things would be different. Alas, they aren't, but I still don't know which of them is worse.

Can I offer America some Soverign Citizens in these authoritarian times?

It's like you're in my head!

[–] doomslang@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Twist. The wolves are both inside me, and I am inside you.

[–] ZiggyTheZygote@lemmy.ca 1 points 23 hours ago

It's an orgy!

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

(The last one is a cop itself...)

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t see how those two are connected.

Sovereign citizens are a nightmare on every level. I dispise what tRump is doing with ICE, but the moment someone proclaims they are a sovereign citizen, they should be deported.

[–] doomslang@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

Because the cops are arresting them. That's the connection.
