We need to normalize prosecuting members of a cabinet who hide the mental failings of a president to maintain their own positions and power.

This is the third administration in a row where the president should have been 25th'd on day one.

We need to set the example that it's unacceptable, and do inquiries and hearings, and resulting changes if/when we find evidence it was covered up.

It's been over a decades now, with both parties doing it for "their side". If we manage a progressive president next it's the perfect time to course correct.

If no one faces consequences, they'll keep doing it.

[–] Substance_P@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

There are so many reasons to evoke the 25th, and very clear reasons for impeachment.

The 13 Articles:

Article I: War Power-Murder-Piracy

Article II: Militarization of Domestic Law Enforcement

Article III: Serial Unconstitutional Detentions and Deportations

Article IV: Retaliation Against Constitutionally Protected Speech or Association

Article V: Abuse of the Pardon Power - Sabotaging the Rule of Law

Article VI: Illegally Crippling or Defunding Programs to Protect Consumers, the Needy, Workers, and the Environment

Article VII: Usurpation of the Congressional Power of the Purse

Article VIII: Contempt of Congress - Secret Government

Article IX: Perverting Law Enforcement to Persecute Political Opponents and Benefit Friends

Article X: Suspending or Dispensing with Laws

Article XI: Flouting Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment

Article XII: Specious National Emergency - Foreign Terrorist Organization Declarations

Article XIII: Domestic and Foreign Emoluments Clauses

As you said, It's time to set an example.

Congress could do something if Congress could do anything.

Congress could do something if Congress ~~could~~ would do anything.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Do you have any idea how valuable insider trading info is? They have direct motivation to NOT do anything

[–] big_slap@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

if we could hold the parents of school shooters accountable like we did last month, we can definitely do this

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

You can't prove a cover-up for mental failings when that person is getting up in front of everyone and talking on a regular basis. You might think it's evil talk, you may even think it's nonsensical babbling most of the time, but a shitload of people don't think that. There are no consequences possible because this is an active choice, not a surprise outcome with a cover-up.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Just because a bunch of people are stupid enough not think his rankings are sane doesn’t make them so.

If half the country said 2+2=5 would they be right too?

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

2+2=5 is not politics. Politics is a game of power, popularity, and persuasion, not math. If everyone in power says no, then it's no.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Sanity is also not politics.

Sanity is the state of having a healthy, sound, and rational mind, characterized by good judgment, emotional stability, and the ability to function rationally. It represents the absence of mental illness or insanity, often described as possessing "wholeness of mind".

Just because a bunch of morons believe him doesn’t make him sane or competent; to the contrary it shows their lack of wherewithal. They ALL need dealt with.

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Outsiders can agree all they want about that fact, but truth is created in small rooms it seems, and that truth can be very different than day to day reality. The rules of the game that were setup are complicated, and the players are currently still willing to play even though they didn't originally know or imagine playing the game this way themselves, it seems to them to be a valid way to play. The regular people also play along, because of the rules of the game, even though how it's played has changed, and some rules they thought couldn't be changed can be, so they don't all like playing anymore, but they are always the first to try to leave the game, so there are many guard rails in place to see that they cannot disturb the real players too much. Even though they could.... Generally they don't. So no, sanity is not politics, but that's already baked in.

Buddy...

If you standard of mental incompetence is not being able to physically stand up and have words come out of their mouth....

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of too much to cover on social media.

But as far as evidence, yes you can absolutely prove it for Biden term the receipts are already out. Fucking books have been written about it, people have gone on record already...

JAKE TAPPER: A lot of us have covered Joe Biden’s aging, and the accompanying inability to do things the way he used to, throughout his Presidency. But what we uncovered, after the election was over, when all the people that we had been talking to for months and years, and all of the people who had been saying, “He’s fine, he’s fine,” were suddenly willing to talk about what had been going on. It was only after the election that we were able to get the insider point of view. Before that, the only insider point of view we really got was from the Hur report, when the special counsel described what he saw behind closed doors, sitting down with Biden for an extended period of time. Before that, it was a lot of: “He’s fine, he’s fine, he’s fine.” But Alex and I have spoken with more than two hundred people after the election. And, unencumbered by their fears of “if I say this, then Joe Biden won’t get elected or Kamala Harris won’t get elected,” they were much more candid.

It’s very important that folks were noting that he tripped onstage at a graduation at the Air Force Academy, but comparing that to him not being able to conjure the name of or recognize George Clooney, somebody he’d known for decades and somebody throwing the most lucrative fund-raiser in the history of the Democratic Party—those are two different things. Noting that he mistakenly thought that he’d had a conversation with François Mitterrand as opposed to Emmanuel Macron—we all saw that and we noted it and we talked about it. But compared to him not knowing the name of one of his top advisers, in December, 2022—there’s a difference. What we found by writing this book is that everything that we saw going on in front of the camera was much worse behind the scenes.

Bidens admin just didn't investigate anything trump did, because they didn't want to draw attention to what they were doing.

But all three administrations were incompetent. I'm sure there's enough bread crumbs to start building cases, offering please deals, and expanding and working up.

Especially when you realize how valuable non appointed staff are on those investigations

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The republicans are. It's completely the GOPs fault for all of this. Never forget they are all enabling Trump, they selected Trump, they supported him, they protect him, they profit off him, they use him, they have all the power they need to stop this shit and everyday choose not to.

The republicans are traitors and idiots and are solely responsible for Donald Trump.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Trump is the festering boil caused by the US refusing to wash its fucking arse

Yes, and no. Yes the GOP is pushing for all of this madness and obstructing any efforts to reign it in. But as much as it pains me to admit, most people in the US bear some culpability. In theory, if everyone old enough and well enough to do so unsupervised, traveled to their state capital or major city and basically flooded the streets with protesters, effectively halting all traffic and commerce, and refused to move until Trump was gone and the war was stopped, this shit would probably stop. Similarly, if everyone refused to work or spend any money, aside from the absolute bare minimum, this shit would stop. Of course there are a million reasons why this won’t happen. It weighs heavily on me that I’m still paying taxes and generally behaving despite the clear need for drastic action.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Putting this on the working poor is ridiculous. Most workers are not in a position to be as politically active as you want, or would be required. Just living requires all of our effort, especially after a decade of runaway inflation and job losses. Most of us under a relentless threat of poverty. Jeopardizing employment or income isn't feasible. Living minimalist lives isn't endurable.

That's like blaming the delivery driver when a gun sold at a store is used in a crime. Sure there's a casual chain, but it's not reasonable to place the blame there. MAGA elected these nuts, and the GOP and all its financial and political backers continue to enable and profit from them without regard to the consequences to others. We can debate how much blame to place where win the casual chain or argue who should have acted differently but the people with the gun in their hand who pulls the trigger is the most, and overwhelming, to blame.

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

To be clear, I’m not trying to “put this on the working poor”. I 100% get why most people aren’t in a position to act. Most people live paycheck to paycheck. This is not a safe place to risk your job, doing so is often risking your life (or your kids lives).

The GOP, the political donor class and their supporters are absolutely awful and deserve the blame. However, we can’t pretend that we are 100% helpless to stop them. When we think about Nazi Germany, do we think “well, the average German didn’t really have control over the situation?”

[–] n4ch1sm0@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Treasonous pieces of shit who need to be flushed down the drain with the rest of the administration.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And the only people who have that power, and will to do so, are preoccupied with working to survive.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 9 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Do I still file my income taxes for 2026?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 1 points 5 hours ago

The typical American worker has wages withheld and gets a refund, so yes

[–] ReasonablePea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Damn man let the 2025 taxes get cold first

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 15 hours ago

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

I loved reading his definition of a war crime. It's basically describing himself at this point, a person sick of mind who is powerful and rich with nuclear weapons. No reasonable leader gets on a social media platform and sends, "Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah."

No reasonable president threatens to destroy an entire civilization.

It takes a sickness of the mind to justify hitting civilian targets just because they indirectly benefit the military.

Is it Taco Tuesday or War Crimes Wednesday?

If neither, Nuclear Fallout Friday...

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We made one of the dumbest, most evil people this country has ever produced the President—twice!—and this is the consequence. We're staring into the darkness, and on the other side of the void is a nuclear arsenal and a 79-year-old lunatic who has never made a wise decision in his life.

This hits the nail on the head.

I hate sitting and wondering “are we gonna eradicate an entire country and start a global conflict or is our leader just on paint fumes”

But I don’t have to hear Harris’ laugh though, right???? That’s worth this insanity???

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

last I heard they brokered a cease fire. this may be taco but for the first time I don't want to make fun of him for it.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 11 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Did Iran confirm this cause Trump says a lot of shit that's not true. Like most of it isn't true.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

Anyone in the Secret Service willing to pull a Jamie Lannister right about now? Please??

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 3 points 20 hours ago

They're probably hanging up the black sheets in the war room at mar-a-lago right now.

Someone get Trump that white "USA" cap he likes to wear while bombing things.

[–] Dionysus@leminal.space 6 points 23 hours ago

It's TACO Tuesday.

Trump always chickens out. No mistake Tuesday was the deadline. It's in his DNA from all the fried chicken he eats.
