This isn’t a new thing, but I wanted to explore it myself. I found a 256T portable drive on AliExpress for $31USD. I had to check it out...

No shock it being 2 SD card hot glued to a circuit board.

Well it's potentially a shock that it was as many as two SD cards...

Thanks for sharing the blog post! I get a lot of stuff off AliExpress, but never any of the electronics. I see them, though, and I've been curious about whether they're any bit legitimate and if not, how far off are they? Never enough to buy anything, though, so reading about someone else doing it is perfect.

Stuff like this is obvious garbage. Basically anything you get is going to be minimal quality, but somewhere in the the reasonable neighborhood. It's almost exactly the same stock as Amazon.

I've bought a few little things, including electronics, and if you look critically at the listings you'll be fine. If you look at a 256TB SSD for $31, yeah there's no way that's real.

Yeah I mostly use AliExpress for cheap fishing gear and some household organizational tools. The stuff is phenomenal for that. Cheap crap that solves an issue cheaply. I've gotten a battery powered FG knot tying device, that works fine, but I didn't think anything with a hard drive was gonna live up to snuff. Unless it was appropriately priced.
