I haven’t had a TV in my bedroom in over 20 years. I had an ex who always wanted it on all the time, even to sleep to, and it drove me crazy.

I have my old old TV from a pawn shop mounted on the wall in the bedroom. Still works. Good enough to hook up a streaming box to and watch something before passing out. Many a nights it has been something mindless like the Office or Parks and Rec

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Sure do. I have a tv in my living room, my man cave, the primary bed room and the guest room.

The living room is the main TV, my man cave is for my PS5 and other game platforms, the bedroom is for my wife to do her yoga and sometimes she will watch tv when she cant sleep.

The guest room is also where we keep our treadmill, stationary bike and stairclimber, si we will use it then.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Absolutely not. There is one TV and it is in the living room. We actually have two 'living rooms' (spaces that are not bathroom, bedroom, or kitchen) and if it was up to me the TV would be in the secondary one, farthest from kitchen and bedroom. I do sometimes like to watch TV but don't want it in my face all the time, and think living room looks better without one. But everyone else wants it in the bigger living room, which also holds the kitchen.

One of the few things we agree on with my spouse is not having a TV in the bedroom. The TV in the living room and our PCs are enough, the bedroom is for sleeping.

Pretty neat if you're interested in missing all the movies' endings.

[–] jaaake@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I have a smart watch that can detect when I fall asleep. I would love it if there was a way to sync that time stamp with when I started a movie and automatically fast forward to 5 mins before then.

It would have to be some third party integration so the streaming service doesn't harvest the data and decide to stop making things I enjoy because I had a long day.

I think samsung or android does this. I noticed that my tablet at night will randomly be paused on a black screen and when I wake it it'll be paused on a video around 5 or 10 minutes after I fell asleep, it's creepy but I guess it helps me not miss my youtube videos

[–] smeg 6 points 13 hours ago

We've generally avoided a TV in the bedroom. When we were given a second hand TV from a family member that was better than our living room TV, we mounted the old TV in our bedroom. We used it maybe 10 times over 2-3 years.

Now we live elsewhere and only have 1 TV in the living room again.

The bedroom needs to be a low tech place, for optimal rest.

[–] potate@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 hours ago

My partner and I don't have ANY tv's.

Neither of us are super into TV or film in a way that builds creativity or community (we don't critique the technical or artistic merits of pieces, and we aren't into anime or other genres where there's potential to build a community around a shared passion). When we turn on the TV, it's to turn off our brains. We decided to not build a shrine to turning off our brains.

We have a laptop with a good screen and speakers that we use when we want to watch something together.

I have one in my bedroom from my ex: she used to goto sleep listening to the news.

It was never able to pick up broadcast tv and I got rid of cable years ago, but it has an ancient ChromeCast that works fine.

... mildly infuriating: the other day I wanted to watch a movie on my tablet but accidentally hit to broadcast. The tv turned on for the first time in years, but you can’t turn it off that way, I have no idea where the remote is, and a software update years ago broke integration with my home automation. I was trying to sleep and there was no way to turn this thing off - I had to get up, move a dresser and unplug it. Annoying as heck

I rarely use any tv anymore. Dont get me wrong, I haven’t improve my watching habits, but TVs are so inconvenient and everyone has multiple screens . At this point it’s just inertia: if I were starting over I wouldn’t have any TVs

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It would definitely still have some sort of physical buttons somewhere. We haven't lost that saving grace yet.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Yeah, but tracing my hands around the edges of the tv in the dark trying to find that power button just got my hand dusty, so I also had to go wash up

[–] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago

Yes. It's wall mounted. But I haven't bothered plugging it in and I'm not sure where the remote has gone.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 1 points 10 hours ago

I don't have a place of my own, I certainly don't own any TVs. However, whenever I stay somewhere with a TV, it is ignored. I don't turn it on. If I had a place of my own I wouldn't have a TV, anywhere.

Most people do have TVs though, but I would say only about a third keep one in the bedroom.

[–] thiccdiccnicc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

Multiple rooms, no TV in the living room but I do have one in our bedroom.

I don't like watching TV with friends, especially new ones. If we do want to watch something, they come upstairs and sit on the couch.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

I do not have a "TV" in my bedroom but I do have a tablet that I use for videos at night I like falling asleep listening to YouTube or twitch

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 1 points 10 hours ago

I don't own a TV anymore, I just don't really care about shows and I rarely watch movies.

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

I don't have a TV in my house, technically. I've got a projector in the living room but that only works at night. All the TV we watch is just on laptops or tablets.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

I have a cheap tv in my bedroom but I hardly ever use it. Anything I want to watch I would rather use my main TV in the living room, and even that’s rare these days. I pretty much only put on the bedroom tv when I’m folding clothes.

[–] JakoJakoJako13@piefed.social 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yes because there's 5 different people not counting a baby that all have different interests in my house. The only time we really come together to watch TV is for sports.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

So you just sit in different rooms watching different things alone?

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 4 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

I would actually prefer that 90% of the time. I hate having to watch TV with someone else, I either miss what's on it or feel awkward when I have to rewind, then people have this warped perception that I care what they are trying to tell me as if it's not obvious I'm watching something on the TV so my focus is elsewhere.

My usage of a TV in the common room is when I'm feeling social or want to have whitenoise, any serious watching is strictly in my den or bedroom

[–] sneakypersimmon@lemmy.today 3 points 12 hours ago

The common room TV usually has reruns of The Simpsons playing simply because everyone can agree on that lol

[–] JakoJakoJako13@piefed.social 4 points 12 hours ago

Not getting along kinda helps but for the most part yeah.

[–] yessikg@fedia.io 2 points 12 hours ago

Yes, I like to watch whatever I want and that includes antenna channels

[–] sneakypersimmon@lemmy.today 2 points 12 hours ago

Yes, TV in the bedroom and in the living room. Living room setup is for sharing with roommates and the kid. Bedroom gets used as our personal living room when everyone else is sleeping.

[–] Borger@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 13 hours ago

Idk if my answer counts here, I technically have a “living room” in my flat but I’ve got it set up as an office. So, nowhere else for the TV to go except my bedroom.

If I had space to put it in my living room, I’d probably still want a smaller one in my bedroom. There are some YT channels I love watching before falling asleep.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago

The TV is used by everyone in the household, so it stays in the living room. Anyone who wants one in their bedroom has to buy it themselves.

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 13 hours ago

I do have a tv in my bedroom, so I can hook up my consoles, and PC and stuff :3. However we do not currently have a tv downstairs in the living room

[–] disregardable@lemmy.zip 2 points 13 hours ago

No, but like, I didn't buy the tv I have in the living room. My mom forced it on me. It doesn't have a cable package and I rarely turn it on. There's no reason to throw it away, but if it were up to me, I probably would have no tv at all. Kind of a 20th century appliance.

[–] Sequentialsilence@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Technically I have multiple TV’s only because I wanted multiple large high resolution screens for my computer. I don’t actually use them as TV’s.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

My TV is mounted to the wall above my computer desk in my bedroom. I have no SO, and so, it doesn't matter.

But, yeah, people who want the TV on "for background noise" drive me nuts. Although I did have mine showing a screensaver slide show of vacation pictures for a while. Seemed like a waste, so I stopped.

[–] Emi@ani.social 1 points 11 hours ago

I have computer in my room with TV above it and watch movies on it when living room is occupied.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

Right now, no. But I plan on upgrading to a bigger screen, so the current living room tv might be delegated to the bedroom, if I don’t end up selling it.

[–] atropa@piefed.social 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Have 5 TVs throughout the house, has grown so much over the years. Most families here have 3 to 4 TVs

Maybe give some money to the poor before buying a second TV. Otherwise, a Sherpa might poison you for your hubris.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

I have a... less than smart TV hanging upside down in my bedroom. I only used it to watch The X-Files in there using my Steam Deck when I brought my second Maine Coon kitty home. I don't even think I have a remote for it. Figured some time in there would be good so she can start to smell like the house. She tucks me in when I go to bed every night so I did something right. TV is still there but has not been used in a few years. Since it is hanging from the ceiling it is easily forgotten and out of the way.
