I made a makeshift strop out of some old denim and applied some chromium oxide paste to it. This morning I used it to touch up this edge, and I definitely noticed an improvement in the smoothness of the edge. The first pass very much felt like I was just wiping hair off my face.

Very close shave with a bit of irritation in the usual tricky spots.

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound Raven 26mm V26 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Iberia 14 7/8 Full Hollow Square Point
  • Lather: CBL Soap - Doc Holiday - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Coconut - Toner
  • Aftershave: CBL Soap - Doc Holiday - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was one of those shaves that makes you take notice. Doc Holiday is a wonderful soap and splash. I haven't used it since last fall, and I look forward to many uses during the upcoming warm months.

This was a test of a Nakayama Maruka Shohounyama edge on this Iberia 14. I wanted to see if I could discern a difference between this edge and the previous Silkstone edge. I could immediately tell the difference. The Jnat edge suits this incredible razor perfectly and allows it to really shine.

I tuned up both my edges with some paste, the previous one turning out well but this one not so. Maybe I was too conservative with the harder steel. The soap is nice, it has a creamy feeling to it. It is also slicker than I'm used to, I already felt it when it got on my fingers as I was loading.

I think Haverford is supposed to be a Fall scent. To me and my nose it's good any day.

Have a great day.

  • Brush: Semogue - 610 Boar
  • Razor: RazoRock GOAT
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (4)
  • Lather: Whole Hog - Unscented - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman Special Reserve - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Stargazer - Aftershave Serum

Better lather that yesterday. I'd like to investigate further, but I'm running out of sample soap! I think it's probably because I loaded with a less-wet brush which in my experience works for all soap. This stuff is quite slick, but I feel like I haven't been able to dial it in for some reason.

Easter Sunday - 5. April 2026

  • Brush: Omega Roma Colossea 31 mm
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb (MMOC)
  • Blade: GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - Tundra Artica (Sample)
  • Post Shave: Störtebekker - Tortuga AS toner spray
  • Post Shave 2: Lavera - Men Sensitive ASB

One pass on the head WTG, two on the face around a full goatee. Many weepers all across the board.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate - even though it's already almost over. I originally planned to shave with this generous sample by @PorkButtsNTaters666@wetshav.ing way earlier, but... I think I am in a bit of a slump atm.

To test it out to its fullest, I even shaved my face a bit - at least around a pretty fresh full goatee/circle beard. However, I don't plan on keeping it. Even though the soap is definitely premium quality, I really didn't enjoy this shave. It felt rough, despite my best efforts. One reason could be that I am simply a bit rusty in my technique due to not shaving properly for a long time. Another could be that an MMOC with a fresh blade is just really keen on sharpness. Suffice to say, my skin didn't like that at all. Most weepers were on my scalp though, GEM razors with their requirement of always keeping the head flat against your skin are very tricky to use for head shaving. It was not that comfortable at all...

As for the scent, it's rather delightful but I can't pinpoint any certain notes. It smells like a luxury bath soap for men, if that makes any sense.

Now that my 3 days off come to an end, I am back to 3 early shifts by tomorrow. Thursday off, immediately followed by 4 early shifts and 2 late shifts. Yay... ☹️
