Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Not just American ones. We didn't vote for the man who started the war, and we still have to pay more for everything.

Must be the way Californians and New Yorkers feel in America, I guess.

Yes. Even the gentle and kind people here in California are full of anger and hatred at this point.

You should hear what these MAGA people say about the situation. My most memorable remark came from a relative I have in Idaho, who told me that she understood how hard it is for people like me (who oppose Trump), because she herself (a perpetually "persecuted" white Christian MAGA voter) lived through Obama's two terms.

That's how these amoral assholes see things. Delusion doesn't even begin to explain what's going on in this country to the red hatted lunatics.

To be fair to her, there was the War on Christmas, fought by replacing Santa on coffee cups with just red color. 🤣

[–] nolannice@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Please don't downplay the war on Christmas. My friend, a wee cobbler elf, died after a drone strike obliterated a north pole factory retrofitted for small arms manufacturing during the war.

Was she put into a detention camp and separated from her family, maybe lose one to a mystery deportation.

This Texan didn't vote for the child rapist warmonger either. Fucking hate it here.

You are the hope the world will be a better place tomorrow. Blue Texas Forever.

Not me, I’m not buying shit right now. Fuck this economy, I’m not participating in it.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 5 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I would, but raising three schoolaged kids. Fuck me, never thought this would happen to the world, I was not prepared. Should have had kids 5 years earlier or later…

I scaled back to only necessities for the last 2/5ths of last year, I’m still spending as little as I can on things that aren’t necessary for surviving, but I will admit to having starting going out to like bars festivals and concerts for 2026 when I’m not too depressed to do so. And I 100% support everyone else trying to starve the beast as best they can, I’m also telling as many people as will listen to enjoy the things they can right now, because all of our lives are about to become much much more difficult for the foreseeable future

Complaining about fuel that's sitting at the equivalent of 55p a litre, in the UK it's almost £1.70 a litre for petrol.

You have to understand how awful our public transportation systems are and how close to broke like 75% of us already were

[–] FatCrab@slrpnk.net 7 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Nah, you gotta understand how fucking stupid, selfish, and god damned myopic our public in the aggregate is here. A completely mismanaged war of bald aggression that resulted in the double tap murder of 150 school children isn't sufficient to rile them--but paying 50 cents more a gallon at the pump and they'll declare a motherfucking fatwa.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 5 points 11 hours ago

That's why I hope gas prices will keep spiraling up, it's the only way Americans will ever learn

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

americans have always been selfish, it's baked into the culture at this point.
