Pam Bondi’s swift dismissal on Thursday underscores a reality that has met Trump loyalists from Jeff Sessions to Kristi Noem – no amount of loyalty is enough to save oneself from being dumped by Donald Trump.

Since the president assumed office last year, there have been few people more important to his effort to remake government than Bondi, his longtime friend.

Trump pledged that retribution would be the hallmark of his second term, and Bondi was the chief enforcer from her first day in office. As attorney general, she obliterated the longstanding norm that the justice department be apolitical and keep the White House at arm’s length. She oversaw purges of career employees who had been assigned to work on the criminal cases against Trump as well as scores of career lawyers with irreplaceable expertise. She also oversaw politically motivated prosecutions against Trump’s political enemies, including the former FBI director James Comey and New York attorney general, Letitia James.

I am not convinced she was dumped. She's walking directly into some cushy "private sector" role. She did the job that trump asked her to do and that's her reward.

She's the fall guy for sure but that was entirely by design and I'm sure she's well aware of that. But who cares if everyone hates you when you got your golden ticket.

I find myself wondering if her cushy "private sector" exit is a direct result of her having seen the fully unredacted Epstein Files. Trump knows he can't piss her off enough to spill those beans.

It's amazing to me how all of them - every single one - has the mindset of "it's not like it'll ever happen to me."

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I don't think that's it, I think they get that they're expendable but even being in the peripheries and immediately canned will help their career and themselves financially given the open and blatant insider trading that is the Hallmark of the current administration.

Just hearing about this now. Lmao

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

You have to be a very special kind of dumbass not to realize this.

I guess every single one of them thinks they are special, just before the rug pull by the malignant narcissist.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 hours ago

They all know. They just think they can gift enough before their time comes.

OP mentions Sessions.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I was about to point out Greg Bovino, but he was allowed the opportunity to "retire" whereas reports are saying Bondi was denied that.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

About the only nazi chick that has moved up is that useless empty POS Huckleberry Sanders. She just does what daddy says.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 hours ago

Everyone under that toad gets sent under the bus sooner or later. But that he's replaced them both with men? That says plenty.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 62 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure that's even particularly the case.

I'm looking at it more like a CEO that's hired specifically to come in and do the shit the board wants but users don't want, take the blame, and leave with a paycheck while the same board continues on like normal.

Just with less planning for the timing of events, because Trump's team is obviously shit at that.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 12 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Perhaps.

A few differences though...

Her role involved criminal acts. Probably treason. Her only hope is that the kompromat she collected will motivate the administration to protect her.

Also, odd time to fire her? Plenty more sin for her to eat.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 46 minutes ago* (last edited 46 minutes ago)

I'm still waiting for the differences. This is standard company procedure criminal acts, probable treason...

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

As dumb as they are they probably think this will negate her subpoena for later this month.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I think most commenters here are missing something.

Working at the White House is like having a NY Times best selling book, or playing on a World Cup team. It doesn't matter that the book was #10 for one week, or that the team lost in the first round.

Look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Scaramucci

She's going to land on a bed filled with $1,000 bills

Money won't buy you happiness, Corruption Barbie.

[–] Peekashoe@lemmy.wtf 6 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (2 children)

Oh, for sure. Their souls are so black that Anish Kapoor has exclusive rights.

But I wonder sometimes - if they are too stupid to not understand that money isn't happiness, does it matter? If they wake up every day in that bed of money thinking, "Oh, I'm so glad. Integrity is for those woke morons. Their tears were the perfect seasoning for my caviar, creme fraiche and blini breakfast. Truly I made all the right choices, and was chosen by God," then does it make a difference?

I know we're probably not even putting them in a metal box in this lifetime, but dream with me for a moment: If somehow we were able to impose a punishment on them that included the duty to feel shame, we'd probably need to teach them what shame is before they could even serve their time.

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Oh, for sure. Their souls are so black that Anish Kapoor has exclusive rights.

Okay, that got a gut laugh out of me, I'll have to use this one later on.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 1 hour ago

A bit esoteric for these plebeians and ne'er do wells.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 1 hour ago

You can't make a blind person see.

The guy who wrote Trump's 'Art of the Deal' for him made out like a bandit, and could have ridden the gravy train for years. Instead he left Trump's orbit as soon as he could and spent the rest of his life regretting his choice to get involved in the first place.

When they are punished, they'll tell you that it's politics, and you'd have done exactly what they did.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 28 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

They must know that their primary role is to take the fall for Trump, right? Their job is to absorb the blows and bad press (and sometimes literal bullets), and once they get too much baggage they get dumped. It's mafia style governance.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 15 points 6 hours ago

Honestly they can't know that and that's what makes it so embarrassing. They think they were chosen to be on some winning team of some zero sum game, and they're sold.

It's also what makes it delicious.

But make no mistake, she will be replaced by a white man who makes less waves and does more damage.

[–] bradinutah@thelemmy.club 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You must be tongue in cheek about them knowing. I don't find anyone foolish enough to work for the Donvict to be bright enough to connect that not only is your position disposable but likely career ruining. Any attorney looking at Giuliani and Trumpepstein ought to take pause as to where this leads. Those that do not, like Bondi, are just another mark to be conned.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 7 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I'm not so sure, the entire modern GOP culture prioritizes loyalty to the leader above all else (even the stock market!) I think it's possible these lieutenants understand that taking the fall for the leader will be viewed by the party to be an act that demonstrates the depth of their loyalty (and therefore helps their future career).

EDIT: Giuliani I think is probably an exception along with some other characters like Mike Lindell that actually are too dumb to understand what's going on.
