I never really used Reddit. I would scroll through it if I was really bored and occasionally post but never that much. I stopped because of the API just because it was really easy to stop. It could only be good for me to remove that one other thing that tricks my mind into doom scrolling. So will I be using Lenny? It would probably be good for me to not and go do more productive things. But I feel like if I have free time, supporting this is definitely good, I really like the goal and don't want it to die.
I gave Lemmy a shot after the API debacle on reddit. First week was bumpy with lots of timeouts and servers that weren't able to handle all the new users from reddit.
It quickly improved. So much so that I went ahead and deleted my reddit account.
Not by itself, no.
My current replacements for reddit are:
- A kbin account for serious-posting
- This Lemmy account for the shitposting (and for communities on lemmy.ml which blanket bans all kbin instances)
- Tildes.net for the extra-serious-posting
- (Eventually) an RSS reader
- Libreddit and a redirector extension for search results
I personally prefer to keep my shitposting from my serious-posting and I also wanted to see what kbin was like, so it kinda worked out well enough (aside from .ml)
Yep, left it cold turkey when the protests started as 99.95% of my browsing was done through Apollo.
Yes and no. My daily scrolling habit has been moved to lemmy and I havenβt really felt any loss.
However, and this is a big caveat: Reddit remains a huge source of institutional knowledge. Half a dozen times weekly Iβll look something up and the most relevant answer/discussion will be from Reddit. As I understand it, lemmy will never fulfill this need, because itβs not scraped the same way Reddit is? Or perhaps Iβve misunderstood something about the way federation works. If thatβs true, itβs a huge blow to the long-term use of lemmy v. Reddit.
Yup.
What people should be aware of and spread awareness of the fact that Reddit did not become popular in a day, week or month. Secondly the content that makes reddit valued comes from the users, the community and that can be reproduced and continued at Lemmy.
RIF user for over a decade, Reddit is dead to me. Haven't looked back.
Sadly, no. Just not enough content on Lemmy, yet.
As somebody who just uses the mobile site on Firefox, I didn't really feel affected by the API changes (besides the fact that Reddit once again showed their ugly face). All the subs I care about feel unchanged.
Pretty much. I'll def never log in again.
Trying to
100%....Havent even looked back since last Friday around 7 when RIF stopped working...spent a couple hours finding Lemmy and eventually Liftoff, I have a new home now
If reddit kills my patched third party app then I'm done using it on mobile, and if they kill old.reddit then I'm done using it on desktop. I'd switch to Lemmy or kbin full time but the content variety is VERY low compared to reddit still, especially for more niche topics like specific games or hobbies.
I am definitely replacing Reddit with Lemmy/kbin. I am done with Reddit.
I went all in on Lemmy and honestly am having a better time than I did on Reddit.
Now that Boost no longer works, I have no reason to go to Reddit. Lemmy all the way at this point.
TBH I could have continued using Reddit as it was in may. Now I'm basically kicked off of a Reddit experience that doesn't treat me like livestock in a cage (the official app). So here I am.
Yup, I've done the full switcheroo. Not going to be using Reddit's app and 90% of my Reddit use is on my phone...
Yes. This is my new Reddit replacement
Yes, for sure. Felt like Reddit where going downhill for a long time. This frog is finally jumping out of the pot.
I registered to try it out. Looks nice so far. Hopefully more users switch and start filling this place with content.
I havenβt been on Reddit since Apollo went dark. Iβm done with it except for a couple specific communities until similar ones are available here.
Yep, there's just a couple communities stuck on Reddit that I still look at, but overall I'm around 80% Lemmy 20% Reddit now.
Well, this is nice, hello
