Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I'm poly, both.

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 1 points 46 minutes ago

Can I get a goth gf that fixes my mental health? I know I'm asking for an exception here, but it's been a really shit year and I could use a win.

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I'd take the goth girlfriend who can fix my car, because I am a goth girlfriend who can fix your electronics and your clothes, and we would be a good power couple

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 2 points 2 hours ago

But what about your mental health?

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

If your mental health is in a good state then the rest of the stuff like car problems are way easier to deal with.

Just one question...is the anime girl like a real life version of an anime girl, or just, ya know, a 2d hand-drawn girl?

[–] Martyy@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

I dont even own a fucking car so this is easy

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Actually, both of them can fix mental health with the right approach. So, the goth girl is more universal.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 12 hours ago

I'll take the Goth GF, she's 3D

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (2 children)

Anime GF. Car maintenance is affordable compared to mental health (also, don't really "need" a car tbh)

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 8 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Neither. I want one to break my spine and chuck me into a wood chipper.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I have both of those. I don't particularly care if I'm being honest, I look apon the world and wish to rend society like it's the flesh of Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. There is nothing that can be done without the complete collapse of the US that would convince me to otherwise have even the mildest bit of interest in my own survival. Even then it'd countering material conditions at best, the psychological effects of most likely having CPTSD and that bastards blood in my veins would be more than enough to counter even that.

I don't want love and community. I want an inglorious death and to be forgotten by the world immediately.

[–] igg@lemmy.world 1 points 28 minutes ago (1 children)

Sounds like you need to want better Mental Health

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 25 minutes ago

Fun fact this is my good mental health. Trauma and autism don't mix particularly well, back when I was like 10 I was actively homicidal now I'm just passively homicidal.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 15 hours ago

The requirements for Valhalla are relatively loose and if I'm joining a bunch of folks who died via whats effectively suicide I want to make sure my story is somewhat unique.

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago

I have neither a car, nor mental health

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't have a car but prefer goth girls... Most difficult choice of my life

[–] Klear@quokk.au 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't have a car and my mental health is unfixable.

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 22 hours ago

I don't have mental health, only mental sickness

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe the goth girl can steal you a car

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

Nah that's a punk

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 8 points 19 hours ago

Goth for sure. I can drive to the doctors.

[–] treesapx@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Any relationship where one partner is fixing the mental health of the other seems dubious, even with magical thinking.

[–] Lisk91@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Definitely Goth Gf. Mental health is overvalued.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 4 points 15 hours ago

I can still run with a broken mental. My car wont run if its broken. Hell, it wont even break with the preventative maintenance my gf will do.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Sooo…. Goth girl, then??

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

yesyes i like real life grlz <3

[–] anothercatgirl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

I like real life grillz too, would be cool if we yuri'd

[–] Pirky@piefed.world 39 points 1 day ago

Anime. I already like/want to tinker with my car so I'll just become the goth GF.

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Step one: Turn into goth girlfriend.

Step two: Wait for them to choose wisely.

(I can fix your (early 90s) car)

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 19 hours ago

Hmm I don't have a car, and my mental health is more or less fine I think.

I like the boots, but I think the nekomimi still beat them. I'm inclined to pick the left one. Do I need to learn Japanese or is she dubbed?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Well I got a car and I already wear a lot of black, so this one's easy. Also I like my women to look my age

[–] Bombastic@sopuli.xyz 2 points 15 hours ago

I don't understand anime, I don't think I would understand an anime girlfriend

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The car is way cheaper to fix.

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed, I probably spent 2-3 cars worth of money therapy over the years. At this point I'll keep a cactus in my ass if it meant being mentally healthy.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Wait, you pay for therapy? Do you live in the US?

How about the exact opposite? Ruin my already weak mental health, damage my car.

But can cook I guess that's the third option.

[–] purplerabbit@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago

I mean, first off, I don't have a car. Second, I'm the anime girlfriend here. And third, my mental health is beyond fixing. So really, I don't really have much of a choice, although I am still quite satisfied with the proposition.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 3 points 19 hours ago

That's a tough one because I don't have a car but neither do I have mental health, so...

I can already fix my car, a goth girlfriend

[–] agentshags@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"her" as in "the car"

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 4 points 21 hours ago
[–] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 6 points 23 hours ago

My car needs a new show absorber.
