Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Neither. I want one to break my spine and chuck me into a wood chipper.

[–] treesapx@lemmy.world 1 points 55 minutes ago

Any relationship where one partner is fixing the mental health of the other seems dubious, even with magical thinking.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Well I got a car and I already wear a lot of black, so this one's easy. Also I like my women to look my age

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago

I have neither a car, nor mental health

[–] Lisk91@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Definitely Goth Gf. Mental health is overvalued.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 1 points 22 minutes ago

I can still run with a broken mental. My car wont run if its broken. Hell, it wont even break with the preventative maintenance my gf will do.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 hours ago

Goth for sure. I can drive to the doctors.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 hours ago

Hmm I don't have a car, and my mental health is more or less fine I think.

I like the boots, but I think the nekomimi still beat them. I'm inclined to pick the left one. Do I need to learn Japanese or is she dubbed?

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 hours ago

That's a tough one because I don't have a car but neither do I have mental health, so...

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 3 hours ago

If I was forced to pick one, it would be the first one.

But I make great company for myself, thank you very much.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

[–] anothercatgirl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I like real life grillz too, would be cool if we yuri'd

[–] VeryInterestingTable@jlai.lu 7 points 6 hours ago

How about the exact opposite? Ruin my already weak mental health, damage my car.

But can cook I guess that's the third option.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The car is way cheaper to fix.

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed, I probably spent 2-3 cars worth of money therapy over the years. At this point I'll keep a cactus in my ass if it meant being mentally healthy.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Wait, you pay for therapy? Do you live in the US?

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 2 points 59 minutes ago (1 children)

No. There are other countries in the world besides North American and European ones.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 19 minutes ago

That's why I asked

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 3 points 5 hours ago
[–] purplerabbit@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 7 hours ago

I mean, first off, I don't have a car. Second, I'm the anime girlfriend here. And third, my mental health is beyond fixing. So really, I don't really have much of a choice, although I am still quite satisfied with the proposition.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 56 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I don't have a car but prefer goth girls... Most difficult choice of my life

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe the goth girl can steal you a car

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Nah that's a punk

[–] Klear@quokk.au 18 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I don't have a car and my mental health is unfixable.

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 7 hours ago

I don't have mental health, only mental sickness

[–] Pirky@piefed.world 37 points 10 hours ago

Anime. I already like/want to tinker with my car so I'll just become the goth GF.

I am one so I pick the other

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Step one: Turn into goth girlfriend.

Step two: Wait for them to choose wisely.

(I can fix your (early 90s) car)

[–] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 6 points 7 hours ago

My car needs a new show absorber.

[–] agentshags@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

"her" as in "the car"

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 12 points 10 hours ago

I can already fix my car, a goth girlfriend

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 8 hours ago

I don't even have a car but I'm going for the goth

[–] Shirow@lemmy.zip 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, if she can help my mental health seems more important. Plus, I can goth for both of us. :3

Still wishing for me to be fit enough for my clothes that I ordered that doesn't fit me yet then I'll be a cutie :3 (couldn't send back second hand clothing).

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I bet you're already a cutie tho 🤭

[–] Shirow@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago

(,,>﹏<,,)

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 7 points 10 hours ago

Damn, I just paid a mechanic to fix my car.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (2 children)

would "fix your mental health" include providing hrt?

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

I mean, goth girls are more likely to have diy supplies though...

Gender dysphoria is a mental health issue last I checked.
