Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to target American tech companies on Tuesday, claiming they are involved in strikes against Iran.

In a statement published by Tasnim News Agency, one of the Islamic Republic’s state media agencies, the IRGC claimed the companies were “involved in terrorist operations” against Iran. The statement listed 18 companies including Tesla, Palantir, and Microsoft.

Only accepts thoughts and prayers.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 2 points 16 hours ago

Oh wow, to imagine that this could be the timeline where giant corporations get attacked by militaries instead of creating their own!

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh, no! Not Palantir! Oh, please don't hurt them! They're just a harmless data processing company run by a devout Christian!

[–] amorangi@lemmy.nz 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

If by Christian you mean literally Satan.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

SHHHHHHHH!!!!!

[–] bigFab@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

No need to worry man. Palantir is not listed. It's Plantir that will blow up.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Good luck, have fun, don't die.

[–] zergtoshi@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

Strange to see something good coming off a war.

Whoa! There are some innocent and hard working people at those work sites. Some people even live nearby and their lives shouldn't be in danger.

There's nice long lists of CEOs, board executives and lobbying firms out there... And if their lives were somehow impacted by this needless war then that would have a much quicker response to this war.

They don't even need to hurt any of them but just target their megayachts that are very easily tracked and this war would end in a heartbeat.

[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah but Iran is letting them know in advance that way they can stop going there.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 66 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's too bad you don't get to choose how the people you attack retaliate. We probably should not have attacked them in the first place

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Exactly, go after the assholes who chose to go to war and actually doing the killing.

[–] mellowistheyellow@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Tell that to America, not Iran. America is blowing up school children.

[–] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 10 points 1 day ago

If you believe Iran, that’s what they are doing.

Sooo kill a few hard working people on boats instead?

[–] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 hours ago

Poisidon demands more sacrifices!

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

To be clear: I hope no innocent people die.

but also: Innocent people in Iran have certainly died by our choice not to update target info (killing school children with a direct hit we should have known better) and by our inaccurate weapons (we're killing lots of civilians).

So it's hard to argue if Iran strikes these tech companies, especially if they time it to, say, the middle of the night when there would be just a few people there.

Basically, I can't condone or support innocent people dying, but it's hard to argue that it would be a war crime for them if it's not a war crime when we hit civilians.

Friendly reminder:

You don't know the admins of any of the lemmy instances you interact with or how likely they are to "have your back" if they get a Letter. Or if they might even report you themselves.

Not sure why I bring that up.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/amazons-cloud-business-bahrain-damaged-iran-strike-ft-reports-2026-04-01/

As best I can tell, no official comment from Amazon yet.

https://press.aboutamazon.com/press-release-archive

More detailed info in this article:

https://www.freepressjournal.in/tech/iran-hits-bahrain-site-hosting-amazon-web-services-in-first-strike-on-us-tech-giants-after-threat-infrastructure-damaged

Iranian missiles have struck the headquarters of Batelco, Bahrain's largest telecommunications company , in Hamala, according to reports from local media. The facility also hosts Amazon Web Services infrastructure, making it a significant target in what appears to be a deliberate escalation of Iran's stated campaign against US tech giants in the region. Iran has announced it would start targeting US companies. This appears to be the first strike carried out under that threat.

I cannot yet find any specific report of casualties.

Just so everyone is aware:

This is a Daily Caller article that OP went thru AOL to hide the source.

If it's real, a non-fascist source will report it.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

The only time you see aol/yahoo links is when the OP wants to hide where the article comes from.

It's crazy consistent.

You'll never see an aol/yahoo link but rehosted from a reasonable source

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 13 points 1 day ago

Bruhhh it was founded my Tucker Carlson. This article is not worth my attention, or anyone's for that matter.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

It does cite a post by Iranian State media on X, though. So it seems more real than just something the Daily Caller made up.

(interesting how X isn't on their naughty list. I wonder why....)

Smart move.

Attack the money that actually runs this country and they might get their dog to heel.

If they aren't directly responsible, they funded and supported this regime all the way through. Death by proxy!
