Who would fire him? Trumps entire administration are the most corrupt officials to ever take office. Insider trading is the least of their many criminal offenses. The entire lot should be thrown in prison!!

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Someone please post the reminder about the voting

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 6 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

not at all corrupt. Nothing this regime does is corrupt, because it's only corrupt if you get charged and convicted for it, which I'm sure you can all imagine is never going to happen. Not while daddy dumpy is in power, and certainly not after, because the democrats are spineless fucking dipshits. (ugh. Fuck this idiot.)

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 45 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Trump knows that when he orders the military to fire on American citizens, Hegseth will enthusiastically pull that trigger. He would launch a nuclear weapon if Trump wanted him to. That kind of unquestioning psychopathic loyalty is incredibly valuable.

Hegseth isn't going anywhere, he's one of Trump's core players, like Bondi or PeeWee Himmler.

[–] S4m_S3p1l 2 points 6 hours ago

You're absolutely right, he's literally just their trigger happy hype man. He's there to act as a motivational figurehead who's willing to accept and promote whatever results in the most military action being taken at Trump's request. Also "trigger happy hype man" - that would actually be a cool name for a song or album come to think of it....

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 9 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

Even if that weren't true, the idea that this type of open corruption is grounds for firing in a Trump admin is laughable. Trump himself is far more corrupt, and hegseth being corrupt just goes further to ensure his loyalty. He can always have Bondi do a selective prosecution of this should he step out of line.

It's basically kompromat that only Trump (through control of the DOJ through Bondi) can use.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Don't forget Bondi wasn't even their first choice. Bondi is just who they used because they couldn't get Matt Gaetz the position. Someone he could blackmail into doing anything because they already have the evidence that he trafficked and raped a minor. Gaetz assistant pled guilty and is in prison with a shortened sentence (14 years) with the agreement he would testify against Gaetz. Both Florida and the U.S. put the files in a drawer and essentially labeled it blackmail and let him walk free until they need to use it against him. He wasn't found not guilty, wasn't even tried, they just put them in a corner and said... Maybe later.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 16 hours ago

That is an entirely accurate assessment of the situation, with one small clarification:

Joel Greenberg wasn't his assistant, he could be better described as a wingman/ concierge/ pimp, sort of a Florida Trailer Trash analogy to Epstein/Trump.

Greenberg was the Seminole County Tax Collector, an elected position, that oversees tax collections, obviously, but also the DMV, and Elections. So it's a powerful position, with a lot of room for corruption.

One of the things that they did was take underage girls into the DMV after hours, and let them root through barrels of old licenses, looking for ones that resembled themselves close enough that they could use them as fake IDs.

Yeah it's probably not going to happen until after the Republicans are out of office and someone can fix the DOJ.

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 29 points 1 day ago

Republicans being held responsible and suffering consequences after leaving office? That's a funny joke, but I've already heard it.

[–] e8CArkcAuLE@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

even if at some point the rule of law returns and they will prosecute, this unhinged piece of shit would rather murder-suicide his whole family than assume any responsibility and consequences

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 22 hours ago

I'm cool with him pulling a Goebbels.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 10 points 23 hours ago

Yeah the editor toned down the quote in the headline. The actual quote from the article was:

"Firing this drunk idiot is the bare minimum. @PeteHegseth should be prosecuted."

[–] pinheadednightmare@lemmy.world 45 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, Trump has been using his position in office to enrich himself in both terms…. What are they gonna do to Hegseth?

[–] Unpigged@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Depends on whether daddy granted his permission.

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 11 points 22 hours ago

or gets his cut of the robbery

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 98 points 1 day ago (1 children)

reached a new "height of criminality."

This is base level of criminality now.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Yeah this isn't even nearly as many felonies as Trump had prior to being elected.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hegseth should serve life in prison.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] artyom@piefed.social 7 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Hegseth should serve life in a drag show?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

He'll enjoy that too much. Drag queens are hilarious.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 2 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

He’ll enjoy that too much.

Do you not know who Pete Hegseth is?

Bryon Noem can give him some tips.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 8 points 18 hours ago

'Fire this idiot'

Followed immediately by "arrest this criminal".

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 27 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

"Under fire"? Man that sounds serious. What are they actually firing at him, though? Like how is he being penalized by being "under fire"? What does that mean?

[–] slemptastrophe@piefed.social 12 points 22 hours ago

It's like when a corporation gets "SLAMMED" for some anti-social act, or policy. It means theyvare being criticized for it, but the accountability ends there.

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago

It doesn’t mean anything. These headlines might as well read, “quell your rage, educated masses: the bad people are finally getting the negative attention they deserve, so put down your pitchforks…”

It’s a slow drip of hope that consequences are just around the corner. It keeps uprisings at bay. Until decades later people realize, “wait a minute… how’s this guy running for President? Wasn’t he ‘under fire’ for some shit not long ago?”

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 13 points 20 hours ago

The only fire Hegseth understands is fireball.

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Out of a cannon into the sun

[–] zergtoshi@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

That requires more energy than shooting him out of the solar system.
I'm all for energy efficiency!
Nice side effect: he has more time to contemplate the reason behind his long journey.

[–] CentipedeFarrier@piefed.social 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Alternatively, launch toward the sun, include a solar power tracker, and track and follow the trajectory for science/physics class work!

Based on trumps speed and position today, calculate where his bloated corpse will be in 9 hours, the length of a workday, which is something he never personally experienced, but tried to make worse for the average person.

Double whammy of learning about history and science!

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

9 hours, the length of a workday

Laughs in European.

[–] CentipedeFarrier@piefed.social 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I mean I’m including the hour lunch there or it would be 8.. pretty sure y’all aren’t working substantially less than that..

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Fair enough, that does change things. 7.5 is pretty standard, but I've generally been contracted for 7. Which is significantly less than 9.

[–] CentipedeFarrier@piefed.social 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

It would be, yeah, and a lot of people here do work 60+ hrs because our country fucking sucks, but that’s not at all the norm for most jobs. If anything, most places that can swing it try to keep you under the hour threshold to qualify as full time (30 hrs in a week or 130 hrs in a month) so they don’t have to offer you benefits like health insurance or vacation days.. so most low-wage workers have multiple jobs and work more than 60 hrs, but still have to pay for their own health insurance or do without it.

I’m not a big fan of mocking exploitation of the working class, regardless where they are from. You have it objectively better, act like it instead of punching down.

What about the peanuts farm?

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm always so angry when this gets brought up. He loved that fucking peanut farm and he gave it up! That's how much he cared about the American people. We didn't deserve him.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

Sorry, AND I don't even know which US president it was 😁

I feel guilty, get better soon Adolf!

[–] Damage@feddit.it 6 points 1 day ago

So this is the limit? Money? Of course.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 6 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Someone more knowledgeable clarify this to me ?

"Pete Hegseth tried to make a LOSING insider trade on his advance knowledge of Trump's Iran war plans, which he advised to start," Grant Stern, managing editor of Occupy Democrats, posted on X. "This is the height of criminality and incompetence."

How was the trade losing ? whatever stock it was went down ? was it something akin to weapons manufacturing ? and if I understand correctly, it was expected to go up because of their involvement in the "war effort" ?

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

You can gamble on whether a stock price will rise or fall. When going to war, stock prices for war companies rise because they are expected to get a lot of business, but if that call to war is suddenly canceled, then the stock price for that company decreases.

If he made a losing bet, one of two things happened:

  1. The value of the stock was going to drop way below the value it started at, so he would earn a large payout on that gamble.

  2. He was funneling large amounts of money to other insider traders.

There are ways to make money when stocks go up, of course, but there are also ways to make money when stocks go down. We don't know the details, but the bottom line is that he bet one way, and the market went the other.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 21 hours ago

What a dunce

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Don't have to be a good criminal to do crime! Dude's an amateur at insider-trading!
