There are plenty of reasons to believe that Democrats are headed toward a blue wave. Democrats are turning out in record numbers in primary contests even in “safe” races. They continue to over-perform in special elections, even flipping the state legislative seat that includes Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Added to that, the war in Iran is already causing Trump to crater with groups of voters that had boosted him to reelection such as Latino voters. And most major pollsters show that voters would overwhelmingly vote for a generic Democrat for Congress compared to a generic Republican.

But one of the biggest indicators of an impending Democratic win come November is the number of Republicans in the House of Representatives not running for reelection.

Never deny the Democrats the ability to totally fucking seize a failure from the jaws of victory.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

And comments like yours give them permission to continue to do nothing. They're scumbag politicians, and if you tell them that we'll accept failure AGAIN, then that's exactly what they'll give us, and just keep on insider trading. They have never feared losing, because they think losing with integrity is good enough, and we have to make them understand that they have to fear us FAR more than they fear losing.

And your assumptions that they'll just lose is contradicted by the fact that Dems have won something like 30 out of 30 special elections, and flipped a whole bunch. If Schmuck & Jeffries want to accept primary losses to progressive candidates who actually want to represent working Americans, then I'll even support a going away party for them.

We've got to stay on top of them every second, and make sure they understand our demands, and there are signs that they are. Last Fall, they folded as soon as things got uncomfortable in the airports, and the outrage was ENORMOUS. They must have heard us, because this time they knew better, and have held tight, and there has been chaos in the airports, as people who still have enough money to fly their families on Spring Break, stood in line for hours, and pondered their past and future votes for MAGA.

Groceries, what a word, a simple word. Can you believe people actually use that word?

[–] RufusFirefly@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

I'm not familiar with the word "groceries," but I do know the phrase food bank.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 70 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Watch them get smug and overconfident, then sit it out again. Calling it now.

[–] GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca 1 points 21 hours ago

Brat summer y'all!!

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

They won't listen to the people. They'll keep their losing talking points. Organized opposition only works if they don't have to actually govern

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah but I bet a lot of reds wearing blue cloaks are going to try to step in for easy seats.

Be vigilant people!

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago

I still haven't forgotten in 2024 a Dem running for some government position literally advertised themselves as an old school conservative. Like dude that's not how you drive out Dem voter s for your side and the MAGA base here definitely won't support conservative light when the other side is running people like Josh Hawley.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago

I had to vote in favor of nuking Iran. Nothing I could do. The whole voting system in Congress is bugged, man. STUPID!

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Liberal Democrats or Conservative Democrats?cause we have too much of the latter.

[–] Angrydeuce@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Yeah it bears mentioning that what they call Democrats are actually Goldwater Republicans that arent on board with the Christian Sharia Law Culture War bullshit.

Other than that their policies are more in alignment with the Rs then theyd ever admit.

Still, if it comes down to the Goldwater Republican and the Christofascists, the Goldwater Republicans win hands down in my book. I just wish all the apoplexy over Socialism in this fucking country was reflected by there being actual leftists running for fucking office outside of a few key, heavily populated districts.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Selfish pricks who made a mess and now leave to let others clean up the mess. Dems will spend their entire time in power fixing shit just to have Americans elect Republicans when the goose is fat again.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 24 points 1 day ago

Dems will spend their entire time in power fixing shit

I'm more afraid that they won't fix some things because they're not in the public eye so much. And so the country slides deeper into billionaire-induced "austerity".

But in any case: the mess won't be easy to fix. 4 years won't be enough. The Republican party has been eager to take over the country (as in: push out the Democrats) for a long time, they won't give up.

And even if Dems somehow manage to fix the education system, it will be 10 more years before the first people to benefit from it are allowed to vote.

The success of Trump is built on decades of weakening the system.

But who knows, maybe the US will experience a shift towards social security, taxing the rich etc. First order: put a proper leash on lobbyism, party donations, aka legal corruption.

In any case: It's always easier to fuck something up than to fix it.

[–] stickly@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

"Made a mess" is bullshit phrasing. These fuckers were complicit in the smash and grab looting of America for decades.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

AIPAC checks will start flowing to dem centrist coffers again, finally! We did it!

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

The Republican party has gone completely bat-shit insane, and because of our de facto two party system that leaves the Democrats as our only real hope. A scary prospect, but that's where we are. If the Democrats are going to save us, they have to humble themselves enough to learn the right lessons from their mistakes and make the right adjustments. That's easier said than done, for sure, but that's our best hope.

At least, that's our best hope at the Federal level, but maybe we should stop looking to the Federal government as much and focus on our state governments more. I honestly think a lot more can be done at the state level and state representatives represent far fewer people than federal representatives, so there's a better chance your state representative will listen to you.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yep. Focus locally. Definitely agree. And we’ll end up with better federal candidates that way.

[–] Jack@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The UK also has a FPTP voting system, and currently the 5th biggest party (Reform) is leading the polls, and the 8th biggest party (Greens) is 2nd: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_United_Kingdom_general_election#2026

If people start voting for non-genocidal parties, you could get a decent government - maybe not this election, but possibly the next. If you keep voting for evil, even the lesser evil, everything just keeps getting more and more evil after every election.

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, and our system is nothing to be remotely proud of. It's a fucking miracle that Reform and the Greens even have a look-in, and is entirely indicative of the two main parties completely shitting the bed. It'll be interesting to see what happens when there's a general election.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 7 points 1 day ago

I wonder if Republicans even care. They are trying to implement ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer type system through systematic re-interpretation of Constitution by the Supreme Court. They are pretty much there with Trump having absolute immunity, withholding funds and declaring wars whenever he wants. So I think the question is if they are on tack to weaken Congress so much it will be irrelevant by the time Democrats take over?

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

This is all a big misinformation campaign to get us to not vote since its all good now. Or its good news. Either way I'm still voting.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One of the reasons is we're a year deep into "fight everywhere".

The DNC has been giving all the money stolen from state parties via the "victory fund" Hillary started a decade ago, back to the state parties.

Allowing them to operate at campaign staffing levels when normally that's just a couple months every other year.

If you understand what the DNC has been doing since they gave neoliberals the boot, none of this is surprising.

We're most likely going to see FDR still president right after trump.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I fucking hope everything you are saying is true, but the Dems tend to let me down so much…

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

but the Dems tend to let me down so much…

I've been bitching about "the Dems" since elementary school when they defended Bill Clinton for lying under oath...

A year ago was really the first time we pried the party back from neoliberals in all those 30 years, because Obama just ignored it instead of appointing chairs that agreed with him.

I'll never be blindly optimistic about anything but as fucked as America is today, this is the most hopeful I've ever been for the country on a 10 year timeline.

We just ain't thru the worst yet.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like Jeffries and Schumer need to go before serious change will actually happen in the party though. The party’s leaders in congress are corporate neoliberal stooges.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The party’s leaders in congress are corporate neoliberal stooges.

While correct...

In case you haven't noticed, nothing is being passed by Congress and it's barely even in session these days.

They're both 100% lame ducks, but that honestly doesn't matter right now.

We'll vote for new congressional leadership after midterms and the new reps are sat, and neither stands a chance of retaining their spots if they don't have the DNC behind them willing to hand seats to Republicans if Dems don't toe the line.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

I hope what you are saying is what is going to happen. We really need an FDR type leader in 2028 if we are going to fix this broken ass country.

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's because they know something we don't.

[–] core@leminal.space 5 points 1 day ago

They know the bill is coming due and fast, and they don't want to be holding the bag when shit hits the fan.
