"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Imagine writing a program in a programming language that requires you pay a subscription, requires an internet connection, requires a specific company's servers to be up , and may or may not do what you hope it does!

My manager just checked in a Claude Code skill that's 100+ lines long, instead of writing a 10-20 line Bash or Python script. This thing connects to the internet and mutates resource state.

How does this even make business sense? In the future, it's gonna cost you money just to run a script that used to be free to run? In the future, you're gonna be vendor locked into Anthropic because your markdown scripts run differently on Gemini?? AI! Buziniss! ๐Ÿ“ˆ

I'm going to love to check in on the "vibe" in a few years. It'll be a collective group of executives pretending like they didn't recently flush millions down the toilet, while somehow still running a skeleton crew of 20 suckers.

Writing a program in a programming language that you can't read; like signing a contract in a language you can't read.

I like how my colleague has put it: AI amplifies the user. So a good programmer can do more and better and a fool can do more (edit: or even less, depending on the fool) and worse

Code cucks.
