I know who Greene is, but I honestly find it weird how they're referred to by their initials only. No other country would do that in a world news community, especially when the politician isn't even a major leader of any sort

[–] Tortellinius@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It's a bit of a trend in US politics.

JFK = John F. Kennedy

AOC = Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

MTG = Marjorie Taylor Greene

I think it has more to do with the US preferring to use the second name initial as an identifier, like with George Bush and George W. Bush. Three letters just roll off the tounge better, while everyone know who is meant. Of course, with AOC it's not her second name but a classic Spanish doubled surname. Though it couls be from somewhere else, too. Idk what countries all have doubled surnames.

Just not brainwashing them how she wants it done, the “Jewish Space Laser” lady.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Something something broken clock

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah yes. They're only brainwashing when it isn't in her interests. But when it is, she'll gladly join the propaganda.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Can't say she's not qualified in the matter.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

More leopards are metaphorically eating people's faces, and all that would probably lead to the downfall of Trump. Just saying.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 184 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm really loving the new game of MTG pretending to newly discover all of the things that everyone has known for years.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 138 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I don't trust her at all. But it is nice to watch.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago

I don't trust her, but I don't think we need to to use her. This could be honest, or it could be just a tool she's using. It doesn't matter. It has the same effect of being a thing we can point to to say even she realizes it.

[–] homes@piefed.world 66 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Oh, I totally agree. I have no idea where this is going, but it is certainly entertaining to watch.

[–] MerryJaneDoe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I recall saying the same thing on June 16 2015. If I had only known then what I know now.

[–] RabbitBBQ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

She either made a ton of fuck you money and bailed out (like so many do in politics), or she's trying to cynically change her image to be able to win elections in Georgia.

[–] homes@piefed.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

So, you really think she ballsy enough to try a political bounce-back moment? Especially in Georgia?

I mean… She might be stupid enough…

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think she's betting long term for when the orange baby dies and the implosion of his cult of personality takes a lot of the GOP with it. If that happens she can point to her new record and position herself as the return to sanity whilst also still being a republican which gives current and then ex-maga supporters an out without having to admit that their shitty morals is what got the petty petulant perpetual pants pooper into power.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Honestly a very solid strategy now that Georgia is purple. Especially if she is angling for a governor or senate position.

I hate it, but I can recognize the strategy amd logic behind it

Yeah, she seems like she is trying to 180 out of the cult but fuck this bitch. Even if she somehow managed to convince every idiot MAGA to leave, she has still done more harm than good.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No matter what she does, she will always be the bitch that blamed forest fires on Jewish space lasers

She is anticipating that sooner or later trump will fuck up so badly that republicans will look for a saner leader. She wants to appeal to all the political conservatives - as distinct from the maga muppets - who currently feel disenfranchised. She's setting herself up for a presidential run. It's quite cunning really.

hey don't compare us muppets to maga like that

[–] grue@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't think she is trying to rehabilitate her image. I think she was a MAGA and Qanon true believer, and she's genuinely only just now figured out that they were lying criminals. She's still 100% on-board with the hateful, bigoted, totalitarian christofascism; she just no longer trusts Trump's faction to lead it.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She wasn’t allowed in on the grift. So she big mad.

I do think she’s hoping for some comeback in the midterms as she “exposes the scam” to others as dumb as herself.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I do think she’s hoping for some comeback in the midterms

The trouble I have with the argument that she's planning a "comeback" is that she only needs such a thing because she resigned in protest in the first place. She could have just... not done that, continued to criticize the regime (or hell, switched parties if @teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 's argument about her being "to the left of most of the democratic fucking party" is to be believed), and been in a better position. Yet that's not what she did.

I have no idea what her plan is, and to be honest, I think that's because the most likely explanation is that she's simply a genuine idiot and doesn't have one.

Hopefully she runs for president and spoils the R vote. That would be glorious.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Please let it happen, it would be so fucking funny to watch her get bit by the misogyny she glibly fed.

[–] gary215@thelemmy.club 32 points 2 days ago (5 children)

She's still pissed Trump would not let her run for Senator in Georgia. The Democrats or Left hasn't forgotten the shit she said.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago

I don’t care why she’s doing it, someone prominent in MAGA calling them out might help other MAGA leave the cult.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I lack faith in the DNC not to be stupid and fall for her bullshit.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I have faith in the DNC to welcome her with open arms when she announces she wants to run as a Democrat for the spot Trump denied her.

I also have faith that the DNC will do a surprise Pikachu face when she turns out to still be a batshit crazy Republican and bites them in the ass.

And she helped them intentionally for many years because brainwashing boomers and peddling fake news is precisely what she wanted to happen.

Fuck her forever.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago

Exactly. It’s what got her elected, and reelected.

The only possible good that I can see from this weird ‘turn’ of hers is that now that she’s speaking truth, perhaps some of the boomers she peddled fake news to will listen and never vote Republican again. Not going to hold my breath however.

[–] oddpixel@lemmy.wtf 40 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Calling it now: she's preparing to run for president.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

2015: it's going to be fun to see Trump try and fail

2026: oh no MTG don't do it

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t think we have as much to worry with her, remember she’s a woman and we know how much America hates that

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 2 days ago

Remember that underestimating trump is what led to a lot of the pain we are feeling now. I would try not to make the same mistake again less than a decade afterwards.

You're coming a looooong long way.

[–] veni_vedi_veni@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Everyone in politics already knows, they just don't have an incentive to state the truth when they're in the group.

Now, It's just rats escaping a sinking ship. You can SA minors, but you can't fuck with rich peoples' stock portfolios..

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

is this because she now can afford better food on the ex senator salary?

got working brain again?

There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says "Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me...you can't get fooled again." We've got to understand the nature of the regime we're dealing with.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 10 points 2 days ago (5 children)

You're gonna have to topple the regime that you helped build Margie, or it isn't good enough.
