Kathleen Stefik, a 59-year-old Trump voter, said she personally feels the hostility from Canadians and has curbed her own trips to Canada in response.

Good.

While she agrees with some of Trump’s policies, including on immigration, she acknowledges that his rhetoric about Canada has been damaging. “What a jerk … shut up, just stop. Be a president, act like a president.”

I mean ... she endorsed a man that tried to overthrow the democratic process. I bet she was laughing at all the other shit he did until it affected her. She expects him to "act like a president"? What world are these people living in?

[–] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago

It's weird. He has never once acted like a president. That's why they voted for him.

I don’t even know this lady and I’m hostile towards her.

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 16 points 3 days ago

And it's all the nicer here without her.

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

She better stay home anyways.

Ah yes, the Finding Out stage, eh?

Not exactly. I want to. I'm just not going to.

Visit family

I'm Canadian and love America. I spent some of my school years living in America and have always enjoyed going back to visit.

Not now. I won't go back until Americans deal with their pest problem.

I hate to break it to you. The pest is just the symptom. There will be more where he came from when 70 years of cheeseburgers inevitably do their job.

Truth. I fear MAGA is just the current tumor from a disease that has metastasized. We'll have to cut deep to remove all this bullshit. Really deep.

Until the tumor of evangelical Christianity gets cut out

Agreed but at this stage that means Trump, everyone in his administration, the entire republican party, the big chunk of Dems who pretend to be an opposition, the billionaires, hedge funds and corporate supporters and their executive and everyone who ever voted republican since Citizens United vs. The FEC.

This effectively means a lifetime ban for me. I am still hopeful for my young children can go back to calling Americans friends before they die of old age. My heart goes out to everyone who doesn't deserve this on both sides of the border.

Damn right we don’t.

Canadian man says border officers made him give DNA sample

Ontario man, 68, says he was threatened with prosecution if he didn’t comply

course we don't want to go there anymore. Why would I willingly step foot in a country where I could potentially be detained by nazi's for the simple fact I'm Canadian. Plus...I mean why would I even want to go to a country full of Nazi's? fuck that.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

step foot

And a bone apple tea to you!

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

step foot

Eh. That’s not correct? I’ve heard it said my whole life.

I always loved visiting the US, especially when we could cross the border freely. And then came the passports, which started a slight decline and a little more of a hassle, and then came Trump, who has a hate-on for Canada. That change pushed the friendship over the edge. Why would a Canadian deliberately put themselves through the humiliation, the fingerprinting and now the DNA test to cross that border?

They figuring it out now? Only took them 2 years
