I’ve had this watch since 2016. It has been with me through grad school, one marriage, and has helped me a lot as a nurse! After wearing it daily since I got it, it finally broke — not sure how, but here we are. Kudos to Apple to making a product that did me well for as long as this watch did!

Rest in peace, watch! Anyone else rocking a Series 1 in 2023?

I upgraded to my series 7 in 2021 and then decided to get the 9 cause it was scratched to hell and back and now I’m just gonna trade it in every year and upgrade, gives a nice big discount and I’m starting a new much better paying job soon so I can afford it, but I’m also an Apple sheep and I’m obsessed with their greatest newest products so maybe don’t do what I do cause I’m dumb.

Take the battery out and put snacks in it.

You said it was your ride or die. It lived up to that name! 🫡

This happened to my series 1 watch. Got a new battery and some adhesive from Amazon for like $15 and been working ever since. Took like 10 min to repair.

It’s still waterproof

[–] Ada-Millionare@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Glue it back... Amazon B7000 glue is what you need

Youll see an improvement from series 1. Just went from series 3 to 8 and there isnt that much change. Biggest shock is the battery is the same.

RAZR edition 😭

Insane to me that people spend $400+ on a watch that barely scrapes by 7 years. Can someone explain this? A decent mechanical watch will last 20-30 years with 10 year servicing intervals (very cheap for a $400 watch). If you’re getting one for fitness tracking, heart monitoring, etc. I can see it. But as a watch? Why? What’s the purpose in buying a disposable watch? You could buy a $2,000 Tudor and pass it down for generations, or buy 3 Apple Watches and throw them away when they are done.

Ah the new Apple Watch Fold.

Release date TBD

[–] new_skool_hepcat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fix it!!! And then sell it if you want an upgrade

[–] justonemorelotion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hmmm, I do not know if it is fixable at this point. I might just leave it in storage with my type writer and rotary phone and see if I can sell it to a collector in a couple decades.

Your battery is swollen that’s what kicked the display. Usually heat, overcharging and getting hit hard causes this. RIP Champ

It literally opened to release its soul.

You have a flip watch

[–] Tesser_Wolf@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Unfortunately the ribbon cables are directly soldered to the logic board. for some stupid reason apple thought that was a good idea.

Oh I still have my series 1 too!

[–] justonemorelotion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ah, a kindred spirit!

See if you can support a large external screen and turn it into a Fallout Pip-Boy.

How did the battery hold up ? Did you notice the watch OS slow down much over time?

[–] justonemorelotion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Oh yeah, it lagged quite a bit! Not enough to where it was unusable. The battery would last 1.5-2 days!

[–] Gummyrabbit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Congrats. You're the first person to design a folding watch. The Apple Watch Fold! Better patent the design.

Just went from a series 0 stainless purchased at launch to an Apple Watch 4 stainless. It’s a huge upgrade but the series 0 is still kicking and I could still get by with it.
