Hüsker Dü. One of those bands that was never huge, but a lot of people influenced by them got huge.

[–] Lioffproxy@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Along the same lines is some bands called king crimson and the melvins

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 1 points 15 hours ago

Melvins absolutely.

King Crimson? The first prog rock band? I also happen to like prog rock though not much of Crimson specifically grabs me(I like a few songs.) But I have a hard time thinking of them as similar to Hüsker Dü.

They were mentioned a couple times in the Trash Theory video about REM that recently dropped… maybe worth a watch for you

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Trash theory is how I found my most recent new to me band IDLES. The Tangk album is pretty rad, sorta Radiohead meets retro punk and something else.

Not really a musik person so i answor weidly: i plan to hear more from alestorm as it caught me completly offguard when i heard the anchor song per chance. I should stop procatsinating on something i want to do ;.;

I'm just starting to get into Angine de Poitrine.

[–] Semester3383@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm trying to find a ticket to a show at Club Soda; I can't seem to find them on the resale market... It's only a ten hour drive, that's cool, right?

A band called Angine de Poitrine.

Do you not have eyes?

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's exactly the problem. The band has a guitarist and a drummer, who's this dude with a keytar and a hat a-la Pet Shop Boys circa 'Very'?

P.S. Also the keyboard is turned the wrong way.

I assumed the image was a joke since everything about it is wrong... Most likely it was AI generated.

Caravan Palace.

I've known "Lone Digger" for some years now, but never listened to their other songs until quite recently, when i was browsing bandcamp and "re-discovered" them. I think all of their stuff is great, but i found the most recent album (on bandcamp), "Ganbusters Melody Club" to be absolutely fantastic, with some of my favorite tracks in general, ever.

Due to a conversation with a good friend about music i had recently, i've compiled a list of my favorite songs, ever, with separate filtering steps narrowing the selection down to first 300, then 120, 60 and finally 20 songs. My favorites from that Caravan Palace album, "City Cook" and "Reverse", both made this top 20 list and I honestly can't recommend them enough.

You might like Beats Antique.

I'm 51 but have always been open minded towards new music. They're not "new" (about 10 years old now) but i have been completely obsessed with Sleep Token lately.

What an insanely good band. Their singer has insane emotion and range in his singing...and is a prodigy-level piano player. The bass and guitarist are really talented and the drummer is pretty much as good as drummers get these days.

I'm not a huge fan of their fans but wow, the band is unlike anything i've ever heard before. So freaking good. The Summoning is a great intro track if you haven't heard them before.

Well worth a listen.

+1 for The Floozies

Good stuff

I've tried listening to that a while back, but imo it never worked quite as well as the Andre Antunes with Nooran Sisters mashup (in which the song is ‘Patakha Guddi’ from the film ‘Highway’). He also has more of these with various Indian and Pakistani singers.

Men I Trust - Equus Asinus and Sessa - Pequena Vertigem de Amor

found them both on bandcamp

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago

Indie: Robots in Disguise

They're fun and have a distinctive sound and often funny lyrics. Some of their tracks are a little out-there for me, though.

Commercial: Halestorm

Metal, nothing groundbreaking, but good and solid. It scratches the itch.

Both are very positive about women's sexuality, which is nice for me and fits in well with Lemmy's recent epidemic of horniness :-)

Soul wax.

Their post-Coachella concert.

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I’m a fan! Their new album is great too

Indie wise. The Stews, Make it out. For chilling. Ryan Montbleau, 75 and sunny. Get the blood pumping. Volbeat, Wait a minute my girl. Not new to me but forgot about for 20 years and just started listening to again. Terrorvision, Pretend best friend.

New to me is Holding Absence. They did a split EP with Alpha Wolf in 2022, which I listened to when it dropped. However, I really didn't get into HA until this week when I gave the EP another spin. The song Coffin by them is super catchy for me.

[–] DrSteveBrule@mander.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

I remember when Mac Demarco's album 2 came out. I was super into it, but then never really kept up with his music in the years after that. I knew how popular he became, but when One Wayne G came out, I got really into his stuff again. That album alone is 200 songs, and he had like 5 other albums I hadn't listened to much. His latest album Guitar came out last year and it's one of my all time favorites.

Mamaleek were a breath of fresh air when I discovered them around five years ago, after thinking I've heard basically all genres already. It was like hearing good music for the first time again.

[–] Skankboot@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Been obsessed with Sorry's latest album Cosplay for weeks now. Jetplane is the song that hooked me

[–] BruisedMoose@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

New to ME: I got the 1993 album "Pablum" by Claw Hammer in a grab bag from my local music shop. It blew my mind and made me angry that I've gone this long without knowing them.

More currently, there have been some pop artists who are so creative and talented that it's thrilling and reassuring: namely King Princess, Laufey, and Raye.

Velveteers, lambrini girls and clowncore

[–] kahjtheundedicated@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Clown core is definitely an experience. But pretty much anything Louis Cole is a part of is fantastic

[–] Lioffproxy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you like clown ore you should check out igorrr he has a song Chevelle that's a good entry point. You should also definetly watch one of the music videos that has footage of him playing. Massively talented.

[–] VOwOxel@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

+1 for both Clown Core (fav: Computers) and Igorrr (fav: Houmous), fantastic stuff.

Degiheugi (Hip Hop) - technically a single artist, not a band ;)
