The tempo of working on a SOAP is unreal.

Soap Opera work is demanding, and excellent training for actors.
I mean, soap operas themselves are not great, with overacting and that weird look they all have.
That said, you gotta respect how long some of them have gone on. And how long some actors have done those roles. And I just say "that one Victor guy" and you know exactly who I mean. One of the most legendary villains on TV.
My favourite soap opera is Revenge... arguably, it really isn't one, but it's designed to look like one, and that's good enough for me to call it one. It's also just barely loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo. Amanda Clarke is one of my favourite TV characters of all time, too. Absolutely loved her character. And "that one Victor guy"? I'd say Revenge's lead villain('s husband) is somewhat inspired by him. They're both grey wolves in suits.
I think his point isn't that the shows are great but that the actors are in a show that airs five hours a week, and there isn't really anywhere else in tv to get that amount of time working and developing your skills anymore.
Ryan Gosling... as always... a miracle...
So many works... The Place Beyond the Pines of 2012... no words...
Thank You... and your Teams you work with... for all the ineffably magnificent marvel... you do...

Fuck Marlena's possession storyline. My parents were watching that just before I left for my first summer at sleepaway camp, and just about every night, I woke up screaming from nightmares in which Marlena would turn into a demon because I wouldn't give her a nickel that I found. One time, I gave her the nickel and she still turned into a demon!
I thought Days of our lives was just typical soap opera with scheming and love affairs
Satan’s a known schemer and needs love too.
Iirc, it was actually Stefano's scheme
I'm currently watching through an old soap opera from the late 60s / early 70s because of its amazingly unusual premise (as far as soap operas go). It's called Dark Shadows and it started off as a gothic mystery but then became a full-on horror soap opera, with ghosts, vampires, werewolves, witches, devil-worshippers, etc. This was a daytime soap opera (lol) and it apparently became a cultural phenomenon that supposedly inspired a lot of stuff in the genre in later years.
Anyway, this is the first and only American soap opera that I've watched, and I have found that the actors are quite a mixed bag. Some of the actors in it are quite bad, and some are legitimately quite good. So much so that I would love to see them in other series or even movies because they have that quality that makes you want to watch them more and because I would like for them to receive proper recognition for their work and talents.
I grew up watching that and was stoked when I heard Burton was making a movie version. Alas the film is B-tier at best, around the time Burton/Depp/Helena were getting into a rut of “it’s us, it’s dark, it’s spooky”. Visually it’s fun though, great cast of Burton and horror regulars.
Yeah, for whatever reason, that Burton movie hasn't enticed me even though I'm almost finished watching all 1,200+ episodes of the soap. Something about it just doesn't seem appealing.
Goth mommy Eva Green is generally the biggest appeal. I’m not sure one can make an unwatchable movie with her in it.
Morgan Freeman dated the Pie Lady on Another World when I was a lad and my ma (and me) watched it.
I’m about his age and I watched that stuff with my grandma. Love the melodramatic overacting. It’s actually impressive when they nail it.
Soap actors are fucking legit. I wonder if he formed this opinion before or after Mickey Mouse club?
