Explanation: In 1982, the Argentine dictatorship invaded the Falklands islands. Thatcher pounced on this opportunity to look good since she was extremely unpopular back home and beat the argentines, cementing her role in ruining britain and british politics for the next 8 years personally, and with her shadow, fucking forever.

The argentines obviously did not take too well to this, and hate Thatcher, to the point where they pre-photoshop photoshopped her into all kinds of ridiculous images. These are fucking memes, also, Tal Cual is basically on the same level of informative quality as Weekly World News, but actually takes itself seriously.

While the Argentinians may have had a salient argument about owning the islands after the spanish left, they certainly have no fucking argument now that they lost the last war over the islands. However, they still love to pretend the island is theirs, and even put it on their money.

Maybe Argentina wouldn't get their shit kicked in if they weren't sniveling little fascists at the time. But I'd like for them to at least explain why they want the islands without a patriotic argument.

But I’d like for them to at least explain why they want the islands without a patriotic argument.

The argument is that the spanish empire had vague ties to it, and that argentina is closer to it than the UK.

However, it falls flat when everyone on the island is a descendant of British people, who don't want to be Argentinian and that the islands were last lost in a war in the 1980s the Argentines themselves instigated means they don't have a leg to stand on.

There was an interesting video on *spit* instagram that explained how the Argentines can get the islands; by being exemplary and an actual valuable country the "kelpers" want to be a part of and forming closer economic, diplomatic and familial ties with the islands.

Considering how argentinians... uh... are, I don't think they'd ever manage to reflect on themselves to do what you explained they could. Unfortunately blind patriotism is a massive problem everywhere in South America.

Unfortunately blind patriotism is a massive problem everywhere ~~in South America~~.

To be honest, not as much as you'd think. It's a problem, but they're too busy sucking dick for europeans that they don't realise that some of the political systems here are quite robust and well functioning.

But argentinians are a bunch of bigheaded egotistical pricks. To the point where Porteños have developed into two types: 1) Argentina and Buenos Aires is the greatest ever, we are so much better than everyone else and 2) I am so embarassed about my fellow Porteños, I am so much better than them because at least I am self aware, the rest of the Porteños suck dick

Realistically,it's basically just used as some scapegoat to hold the people together, a common enemy.

Of course, Argentines would never say that.
