I.. I have NO words. The words won't form in my head.
>After casting her vote for Donald Trump in 2024 in hopes that he would bring transparency around the Jeffrey Epstein case, Epstein survivor Jena Lisa Jones said in an interview this week that she now fears “we’re not going to get justice in all of this”.

What would voting for Epstein's best friend and accomplice achieve in getting "her day in court"?? Why would the biggest liar, cheat, fraud, and moron in the entire world NOT quash anything negative that has his name attached to it? WHAT IS THIS LOGIC? IS THIS LOGIC?

I really don't want to be the person who tells an Epstein survivor they're an incomprehensible idiot... did I just do that? I guess maybe I did? I'm.. sorry? I'm.. NOT sorry? I don't know what I am.

Probably has to do with the notion of Trump being "anti-establishment" and Epstein being considered part of that "establishment". The idea in certain sphere has long been that there was a conspiracy of evil pedophiles running the deep state and that Trump was their adversary (see Pizzagate).

Some of his closest allies were pretty vocal on the Epstein case before the 2024 election, being convinced the likes of Bill Clinton would be compromised (which he was), but apparently believing Trump was innocent (which, obviously, he wasn't). Trump opposing the release of the file was something many in his camp appeared surprised and disappointed by, as his appearance in them ; tho of course those closest to him will say that was another conspiracy.

Trump said repeatedly on the campaign trail that he would release the files. That he was the only one that could do it. Just like he says lots of bullshit.

As it turns out stupid people are stupid.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Said a lot of shit on the campaign trail. All of it, every word was horseshit. Everyone knew it.

Everyone with a functioning brain...

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That IS becoming a rarity more these days isn't it

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Well I didn't realise until 2016 that a person could become president without having one.

[–] RhondaSandTits@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But that was 16 years after George W Bush was elected president.

[–] Ravel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

Bush is like a master orator and statesman compared to Trump, and Bush was a moron, but like.. regular moron, not actually literally retarded like Trump.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 25 points 6 days ago

Fox News destroyed a lot of people’s brains. Basically turned them into mush. So I’m not surprised a conservative could be this stupid.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 84 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I.. uh.. wow. I don’t think I could hold that much cognitive dissonance in my head. That’s fuckin wild.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago

They discovered a cheat code. If you don't use the cognition part, you get none of the dissonance.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 61 points 6 days ago

"Trump is gonna release the Epstein files and hold all of the pedophiles accountable for their actions!"

  • Morons on their way to vote for Jeffrey Epstein's best friend

I'll get downvotes for this, but this is one case where I can understand her position. She was trafficked, raped and traumatized as a kid, was likely fed drugs as a kid as well. She's lived with that trauma her entire life, spoken up and was dismissed, and she's still angry, frustrated, terrified and traumatized.

And no one does anything. For years, for decades, no one does anything.

And trump comes along and says he'll prosecute the people on the list. Maybe she thinks he's not on the list, maybe she knows he is but if he's not the one who raped her she doesn't cares, she just wants everyone else taken down.

No one else is promising to go after the Epstein list, but trump is. And she's hoping that if she can see some justice get done, that she'll finally be able to put some of her trauma behind her.

She's not racist, she's not a brainwashed Fox News addict, she doesn't want to 'stick it to the libs'. She is legitimately a one-issue voter. She just wants free of her pain, and she casts the one vote that's promising her that.

This is the one vote that I don't think is LAMF material, it's just a tragedy for this poor woman.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 44 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Trump was a well-known close associate of Epstein way before 2024 as well as a known rapist. Trauma doesn't excuse being a self-serving idiot.

[–] trublu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 6 days ago

And a tremendous, pervasive liar. Why would you trust his promise to target child rapists? He's a known associate of child sex traffickers and a liar.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Just because we know that doesn't mean she knew that. Not every victim of Epstein was raped by Trump.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Anyone who didn't know that Trump is a rapist, racist, etc. by 2024 is being a willful idiot and is nowhere near informed enough to responsibly vote.

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social -2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

you're vastly underestimating the effectiveness of the propaganda bubble. people out there who still don't know Trump was convicted on fraud charges.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 days ago

Propaganda is not an excuse for being recklessly irresponsible with your vote.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io -4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Again: if trump never raped her, and he's promising revenge on the people who trafficked her and who did rape her? After years of no justice, no peace, she sees this as a possibility and she grabs it with both hands. Just like someone with cancer and no hope left from traditional medicine might go into alternative treatments, just for the chance - I can see her doing that.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 14 points 6 days ago

She might, and it's fucked up and self-serving, as I said. "Fuck everyone who might be harmed by putting this monster into power, he might do something that benefits me!"

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Your logic is sound and fair. There's a second layer as well.

Neither Biden nor Harris would have done anything for this woman. They proved it the first time.

To be fair, Trump did too. But still. Neo libs don't give two fucks about Epstein.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Except Trump definitely did not promise that if you actually listened to what he said and not the chopped up version that ran on Faux News.

[–] Ravel@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

Can anyone listen to unedited Trump? It's just straight up word salad.

[–] Decq@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This settles it for me. Democracy can never work when people as dumb as this can vote. And there are this many of them as it seems. I just can't phantom how you can not have seen through his blatantly obvious lies. Especially in her case.

I've been very disillusioned for sure. I think the pointed term is that it depends on a "well-informed electorate". Except, what if the electorate is willfully ignorant, lazy, resentful, and hateful? This isn't being taken advantage of in only the US either. It's a fundamental flaw.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 16 points 5 days ago

You know what? Go to the end of the justice line. You'll get yours after everyone else.

[–] GeekyOnion@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago

At some point, these stories all fade into noise, which is the intended outcome. For some reason (humans are defective, I guess), people constantly act outside their own best interests. I do it! I eat trash all the time, despite knowing I shouldn't, and that it has an effect on my health.

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I hate to say it, but I just realized - Trump and his administration has released more of the Epstein files than the Democrats did.

Biden's administration had the files too, and they didn't even release the heavily censored (and definitely selective) version the Trump admin has released so far.

Why?

And I realized this is probably why she voted Trump a second time. Yeah, it was still a very stupid vote - he's definitely not going to release anything fully incriminating, especially to himself. But why didn't the Democrats release something? Would have taken down Trump's whole campaign trail speech of releasing the files too.

And in that context, I could see her voting for the person who says they will out of desperation, if only because they're talking about it. Even if she knew it's unlikely, to her it was probably just very slightly more likely something would come out of it compared to the side that wasn't campaigning on releasing the files.

[–] RedRibbonArmy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

Agree with this analysis. Ro Khana and Thomas Massie should run for president and VP as a unity ticket to reclaim democracy and prosecute the Epstein class.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 5 days ago

I can't understand how she didn't know that Trump was culpable and a total piece of shit. His connection with Epstein was never a secret. As far as I'm concerned she and every other "misguided" Trump bitter brought this shit on herself and all of us along with her. If they'd actually listened to the warnings and bothered to look even an inch deep into the red flags they'd have known he was a racist, malicious, unqualified con artist. They didn't need to be a Democrat to learn it either. Leading up to the midterms before the 2016 election there were like 10 other Republican candidates, several of them actually being somewhat viable, and ALL of them being better than the Orange Jackass.

So enjoy the day you voted for lady. Really gulp that shit down. The rest of us have to thanks to people like you.

You voted for a gleeful rapist, dipshit. What did you expect?
