Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I think they should raise the upper and the lower limit. Let’s send 55 to 85 year olds. Maybe that way it will end sooner.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

That should be a global policy. These old fucks can start fighting their own wars for once in history

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Send the politicians first. World peace achieved in 1 day.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

hey thats RUSSIAS policy now.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 6 days ago (4 children)

And Trump will be following Russians lead.

We lost 58,000 in Vietnam in over 10 years, and less than 5000 in Afghanistan in 20 years. Putin has lost 1.2 million in 4 years.

Trump is going to fight a war like Putin, because he will see those deaths as a score, and the more people that sacrifice their lives for him, the more important he is in history. People talk about Hitler and Stalin because of how many people they killed, so if he wants to be remembered for all time, he has to get real dictator numbers for his war.

BTW, when it becomes clear that he doesn't know what he's doing, and he is just sending American soldiers to die in an endless meat-grinder war, enlistments will end. Then he's going to call for a draft, and literally enslave young American men to die for him.

Running up the war dead because he thinks it makes him look more powerful is typical Trump logic.

Yeah the war with Iran is going to be a long one.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

iran likely wont lose too much since they have the home advantage, plus they have been preparing for a long time.

Mark me down as having bone spurs

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 10 points 5 days ago

I'd rather snort cocaine right in front of the MEPS people and end up in prison than ever fight for this bastard.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (2 children)

42?

Who da fuq is going to survive Basic at 42?

[–] MisterD@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

One of these things is good. Unfortunately, all of it is in service of getting warm bodies to participate in Operation Epstein's Fury.

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

lol what, no one is signing up to die so Netanyahu and Trump can avoid prison?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 9 points 6 days ago

They're going to have to really redo their advertising if they're going to attract stoners. All that advertising is about how you can see the world (and then blew it up) and get free training (in skills that are utterly useless outside of the military) and become a hero (by having your legs blown off).

All of that sounds like way too much hard work. I just want to do my 8 hours and then go home. Also virtually every civilian job pays better. It's amazing anyone joins up.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if this will bring out all those big macho MAGAs, eager to fight for Dear Leader?

Yeah. And Neil Breen will win Best Director next year.

If the draft comes, I guess this is a perk of having POTS. But I would bet being the only male I've ever met with it, they're going to do all the stupid ass testing because they won't believe my entire medical record

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't think they'll care about medical issues. They'll probably just send people with them to be canon fodder.

A final reminder that I'm at the crest of a hill sloping downward.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Don’t worry, you pick up speed as you go. It’s fun! See ya at the bottom!

[–] MartianRecon@lemmus.org 14 points 6 days ago

They'll need adults to join to help clean up the fucking mess of epic proportions that the current administration is creating.

Is it bad that I am laughing? You get what you voted for. Or not voted for.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (6 children)

FYI, we would have to lose A LOT of soldiers before a draft makes sense. We are not even in the ballpark.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Since when does anything have to make sense?

[–] RobertoOberto@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago (7 children)

They can still fuck with a lot of people without a draft though.

Most U.S. enlistment contracts have a period of four years in the inactive ready reserves (IRR) after the normal four years of active duty. Not to mention the active reserves and national guard.

That's a lot of people leading otherwise normal, mostly civilian lives, that could get called up. Granted, that's not the same as a straight up draft - all of those people choose to sign up in some capacity.

But we have a lot of bodies on tap to churn through the human meat grinder before a draft.

Isn't that exciting and reassuring?

If anyone gets drafted, then I better start hearing of crazy numbers of team killing happening.

I am disappointed nobody mentioned that 42 is the perfect choice since it’s the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
