The bill reportedly includes $2.2 million for irrigation

That right there tells me everything I need to know. Green grass in a desert.

My HOA requires (2) 20 gallon plants and (5) 5 gallon plants in my front yard. The 5 gallon plants keep dying in the extreme heat and I get a violation notice to remove the dead plants. If I don’t plant new plants, I get a violation notice. I’m planting plants that will die because the ground temps are 130°F where I live. Waste of water, dumbest shit ever.

My HOA can’t even keep our community saguaros alive but they get to replace them with iron sculptures. I’m just stuck in a perpetual loop of killing plants.

My man, fake plants have come a long way! Get some of the appropriate size and rest easy!

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No fake plants allowed in the front yard. That’s why I’m pissed they can kill a protected species of cactus and replace it with an iron replica. It’s total BS.

Don't admit that it's plastic. Ez pz.

If they need to be dead close and touch them to determine plastic, hit them with trespassing.

So people live in HOAs because....afraid to live near brown/black people? Why would anyone buy into this?

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago

Kinda racist to assume the nice neighborhoods don’t have black and brown people. There are no options in the nicer neighborhoods. Either you live in the ghetto filled with white crack heads or you live with an HOA.

Story says the HOA insurance policy didn't cover all the damages.

Sounds like they didn't have good enough insurance, or even any gap insurance at all.

guessing its more than that. Condo across the street had a fire years ago. Like a bit after covid. Almost rebuilt but still surrounded by fence and not occupied. Everyone who owned one has been charged assesments this whole time. Thats how it works. Rebuilding took so long because of the insurance company dragging feat and pushing over what it had to do. Scary as heck and makes you wonder whats the point of insurance.

HOA's are a plague and should be banned. If it covers common spaces, parks, maintenance, that ahould be the city paying for it. If it is about residential appearance and guidelines, that should again be handled by the cities code enforcement. Nowhere should some random bunch of your neighbors or a corporation be allowed to levy duties and set rules for your house...

HOAs make a lot of sense when there's shared private infrastructure, like elevators. They make less sense when they dictate what color residents can paint their houses.

HOA1: we’re getting a lot of flack for enforcing our punitive rules. Maybe we should back off a little? Be a bit more understanding.
HOA2: let’s fine people for violating esthetic property rules from wildfires!
HOA1: …sounds good to me!

I believe all life is sacred but this might actually drive me to kill, if not for myself for my neighbors
