When I see all those christian pedo-nazis, if I were to believe in all this BS (which I fucking don't), Hell is for sure where I wanna end up. I don't want to spend eternity raping children and shooting people of color in paradise.

There's some cool old Christian music but I bet they're just playing creed in heaven.

Love how the religeous claim certainty that THEIR instructions from God, and they all seem to justify their "grandad's" values as to when to break their own principles.

Ie:

Love thy neighbour but MY NEIGHBOR got a Windmill so I should be allowed to arson!

If a thief takes your cloak, also give him your coat... but no socialism for anyone I dont know, they r all lazy bums

Etc etc

No chance any of this is u know who, or maybe just your ego? Oh no, you know cause a gut feeling and old folks said so

In Evangelical circles, we refer to this as discernment. Discernment is great, it explains why the bible might be confusing to some people, why it might seem to definitely contradict itself, and why it seems to be so broadly open to interpretation. To navigate all of that, you don’t trust your evil sinful gut - you use Discernment

It’s spoken about as if it is a super power you get when you become a Christian. Unfortunately, you don’t magically become discerning once you become a Christian, and plenty of people are just dumb.

Lucifer is the reasonable one in the Bible, God is the one who wipes out millions for amusement.

Did you know that according to the Bible they hang out and talk shit together? God never hangs out with anyone else.

Satan is not out here murdering 168 school children. Christians are doing that. Satan is not out here raping and genociding its neighbors. Jews are doing that. Satan is not out here murdering peaceful protestors. Muslims are doing that.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Satan doesn't kill a single person in the Bible. Yahweh on the other hand...

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Satan isn't really much of a presence in the Bible at all. Christians made up more shit to have something to blame for everything they don't like.

[–] Demdaru@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Wasn't it that Satan did 4 things?

  • A bit of arrogant rant that he is not gonna serve humans. Got thrown to hell. By all loving father. Yeah.
  • Still pissed, nudged Eve to break the God rule about apple. God had a meltdown and not only banished but also cursed Adam and Eve.
  • Teased Jesus to break his goal. Didn't work.
  • Teased God on few occassions about devotion of humans. Then God made people suffer to prove his point.

Like, Lucifer always seemed to me more like disgruntled old family friend/worker than some evil guy.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

The serpent being Satan was a retcon from the New Testament, too.

Or rather nationalists. It's not that the IDF is a religious organization or something

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Eh, don't know if you can truly separate the IDF and their religion. Certainly the rhetoric they employ relies upon it.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So why is the Israeli government and IDF committing a genocide?

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Because of nationalism and colonialism. They might use religious rhetoric where it suits them and there are religious people in government, I don't deny that, but over all it's a ethnic supremecist ideology and religion is only one identity marker, not the motivator.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

And all of this is rooted in religious overtones. You take the religious aspects out and I doubt this would be happening. The ethnic supremacy is rooted in religion.

Yes religions are the cause of every issues /s not imperialism or capitalism, religion.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 12 points 1 week ago

Organized religion is a very useful tool for imperialism and capitalism, and I'm tired of pretending it isn't

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't recall saying any of these words you're putting in my mouth. Are you suggesting the people committing these atrocities are not what I say they are?

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Evangelical Christianity IS a manifestation of capitalism. It is the culture arm of capitalism.

Racism literally came from Christianity. It definitely is the problem and creates a framework to allow capitalists/wealthy to take advantage of people.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well yes, Thats the propaganda of christianity. Their god doesn’t want you to have independent, critical thought. You’re supposed to do as the authorities tell you, pay your taxes like Jesus TOTALLY said 🙄and be a good citizen and follow the laws. Curious isnt it? Almost as if the texts were altered thousands of times over the years until they fit the views of the people pushing it

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It is essentially a slave religion where you work for next to nothing your entire life in suffering and then you get imaginary rewards in the afterlife.

It is of course a garbage religion that borrowed all of its stories from religions that came before it. Jesus was a doomsday cultist who believed in resurrection on this Earth hence why his cultists staged his resurrection to prove his teachings were true.
