March 25th, 2026: Wow nice

  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations - w/AP Shave Co. Cashmere 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Licht Werk Magnetic Blue Steel - Solingen - 6/8 Half Hollow (1)
  • Lather: Fanzine Saponifications - Caravaggio - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Petrichor - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Stargazer - Aftershave Serum
  • Fragrance: Berceuse Parfum - Allegretto 7.2 - EdP

I got this razor recently on Auction Ninja. I couldn't find much information about Licht Werk online, other than there's a modern lighting company who uses the name. There are a few pictures of other examples online, and the one I got is in excellent condition compared to the photos I found.

Either I'm getting a lot better at this honing business, or I got lucky, or this razor is just really really good, or some combination of the above options -- because this edge was really really nice. This was probably my first time going 2k, 5k, 8k, 10k where I could actually tell a distinct difference between each step using the packing peanut test. In the past I could tell things were getting better as I went, but this time it was more obvious if that makes sense.

So your honing skills are getting razor sharp.

[–] walden@wetshav.ing 1 points 2 weeks ago

Almost as sharp as your wit!

  • Prep: Shower
  • Brush: AKA Brushworx w/ AP Shave Co 26 mm Synbad Bulb
  • Razor: Gillette slim
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary
  • Post Shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream
  • Fragrance: Noble Otter - Firefighter
  • Whiskers: Jojoba/Argan w/Tea Tree Oil
  • Skin Health: Zinc Oral Supplement

Scooped and lathered in my Captain's Choice bowl. This soap is still soft enough to scoop and press into a bowl easily. But it is hard enough that it's pretty concentrated. I scooped a bit less than I normally would and still could have scooped a bit less. I could make this soap last a loooong time if I always scooped it and used a synthetic that isn't much of a lather hog. I mix it up though but should get a lot of use from this soap

Edit: AND I didn't plan it this way but this shave fits the BVSC theme in that, well I bet could make this soap last a good six months if I really tried, so despite the high initial price point, it's pretty cost effective, what with high gas prices.

March 25, 2026 -- March Madness -- BVWSC!

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts with Declaration Grooming B10
  • Razor: Koraat 6/8" Full Hollow
  • Lather: Summer Break Soaps - Steady - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Coconut - Toner
  • Aftershave: Summer Break Soaps - Steady - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Summer Break Soaps - Steady - Eau de Parfum

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Today's shave satisfies two conditions. First, it is a March Madness day and this shave shows support for Summer Break Soaps who have made it to the final four. Second, today is a Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club day! We're doing a themed shave today, and the theme of the day is The Strait of Hormuz. Given the extremely tense circumstances that center on the Strait, I think today's SBS trifecta fits the theme as in, "Steady! Easy does it. Let's not let this get more out of control!". (I'm certain this sentiment will go unheeded.)

Quintidi 5 Germinal an 234 de la Révolution, jour de Poule: BVWSC – The Strait of Hormuz

It's Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club time, and its theme is The Strait of Hormuz (unfortunately, no Tundra Artica for you). Justification: So, I've used a straight, so the strait is covered. The aftershave is an aquatic, and so the watery element is covered as well. The Persians used to have good cavalry, so a horse brush seemed appropriate.

I'm not sure about the thought process behind Narcisse. It doesn't smell like oil (more or less like the Strait of Hormuz now?), but it is a French soap, and we have a defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates. Or could there be another link? Who knows!

Have a good evening!

BVWSC Theme - Strait of Hormuz - 25. March 2026

  • Prep: head wash w/ hot water
  • Brush: Omega Roma Colossea 31 mm
  • Razor: Razorock Cyber Medium w/ 316L Bamboo handle
  • Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Gearhead
  • Post Shave: Störtebekker - Tortuga AS Tonic Spray
  • Post Shave: HAGS - Apocalypse ASB

2 pass head shave with zero irritation or blood spilled. A very close and comfortable shave!

So today we're doing one of the first themed shaves of our community since international shipping is fucked. I was wondering how to approach that theme for a shave, but I think I managed alright: Bamboo is mostly cultivated in Asia and exported globally, also among ships. I can also imagine that due to its durability and closeness, it's often used in the Arabian countries. The real one though, not the stainless steel variant. The soap is of course referring to oil tankers and the incredibly increasing gas prices due to the conflict. The aftershave spray has a seafarer/pirate theme and brings a nice, modern bay rum fragrance while the balm with its aquatic notes joins it to cover a maritime theme.

I think the theme is quite politically charged so I'll blow off some steam. Personally, I hope this conflict is over soon - but it'd be much better if it wasn't started at all. As much as the Iranian theocratic regime is bad, I feel for the innocent civilians there who had to suffer the bombing and drone attacks. And let's be honest, neither Trump nor Netanjahu are any better than Putin by disguising an unjustified war as a "special operation". Fuck those autocratic assholes. So much for the "Peace President"...

As for the shave? It was awesome. I was only shaving my head dry with the rotary shaver in the past few days, so I was really missing this smooth, liquid glass like finish up top. Unfortunately, the dry shaves aren't irritation-free but surprisingly this shave was. I suspect it's due to the prep work - I often neglected this in the past due to time constraints, but a nice hot water wash makes a noticeable difference for me.
